Chinese Weaponry Martial Art?
Hi,
Bit of a strange question but what martial art most relates to chinese weaponry? For example, doesn't japanese weaponry have martial art to it called Iado or something? Thanks. |

However, different Systems/styles focus on different weapons, but there are pretty universal CMA weapons such as the Broadsword, Staff, steelwhip etc, and different styles will have different weapons forms even if the weapon is the same.

The Chinese have dedicated weapon martial arts, they're just very rare in the states. http://thomaschen.freewebspace.com/contact.html
Take a look at that, it has some information on jian styles |

For Chinese weaponry, try Shaolin kung fu. The basic-level standard seems to be eighteen weapons.

Iaido focuses on rapid strikes and blocks with the sword starting in the scabbard while kneeling. Apparently in the fuedal days this was an important skill, because the nobility spent a lot of time kneeling around each other with swords drinking sake and hatching plots against each other. Allow me to recommend Kurasawa's "Throne of Blood".
More seriously, it is often practiced in conjunction with kendo. Even though they bear little apparent relation, a lot of people believe practicing iaido is essential to understanding kendo. "Old McDonald had a sword, Iai, Iaido . . ." |
