In the vein of these 'Favorite Weapon' threads which are filled with weapons which you will most likely never see in a real confrontation, I am wondering what you think is overall, the most practical, accessible 'street' weapon. I've already expressed my views in another thread, and I'll repost them here once the discussion gets going, but for now... how about pens and pencils?
Round here, the most common weapon on "the street" is a glass beer bottle. Why? Easy to get hold of, dangerous, and when combined with its contents can make an unbelievable fighting machine.
a CAR! haha, no the best weapon is a clear mind and a good pair of schoes to run you away. but if that doesnt work then i say a 2-3 foot metal pipe?
Absolutely. If that fails, anything you can get your hands on: garbage can lid, car antenna (sp?), bottles, rocks, pens, etc. etc. etc.
the best weapon in any situation is your brain and your basic human resourcefulness (sp?) clear thought will enable you grab anything to hand and use it in your defence. pens and pencils? yes, they can be very effective, but how oftern to have a pen or pencil on you in the street? not oftern in my case. bottles? yes, but again, what if there are none available.
What about things that you might carry on you? (with the exception of knives and guns of course) Pens and keys could be dangerous, as well as walking sticks if you are old enough to use them Belts are also a very lethal weapon, with the buckle capable of large amounts of damage. However training will probably be required with the chain or similar weapon before the belt can be used effectively. Other weapons could include mobile phones (If you're desperate) or maybe even loose change (If you're even more desperate) Dunno. Use your imagnination.
lemmie think of stuff i ahve on me that can be lehtal weapons my steel toed work boots, even though im not a practitioner of a kicking art its not taht hard to put boot to shin or knee. keys wow tahts it... every thing else I ahve tht I could use a weapon is a weapon.....me and kinves.... U could always use the ground or teh wall.
Pens and Pencils as weapons sends a light shiver down my spine after as a youth was stabbed with a pencil and can recall the nasty nasty pain of getting lead out of your flesh. I couldnt state my favourite weapon as iv never been in a fight with a weapon (of any kind apart from body parts) and it would depend where I was. But if I was in a ribbish tip i`d pick up something sharp if they didnt have a weapon... and if they had a weapon something long and strong.I hope in the future never to encounter a street fight.. especially a weaponed one!
Ok, now this is going to sound incredibly strange and stupid, but my most effective weapon I've used in a street fight, was my................... SHOE! I took it off and attacked the guy with it while screaming like bruce lee, and swinging it by the strings like nunchaku. Only thing was this was actually a school yard brawl not really a street fight, but hey... it's the best i can recall weapon wise.
ROFL!! That's Great! I can actually see that working too. Good weight, semi hard material and centrifugal force. The best part is he's not coming back and he's not telling his buddies what really happend. Think about it: Them: What happed? You: He screamed at me and hit me with his shoe. Them:BWWHAAHAHHAHHAAAHAHAHHHAHAHAHHAHA! No really? You:That's what happend. Them:BWWHAAHAHHAHHAAAHAHAHHHAHAHAHHAHA! *gasp* BWWHAAHAHHAHHAAAHAHAHHHAHAHAHHAHA! Them: Better run! Here he comes now with a set of Doc Martens. BWWHAAHAHHAHHAAAHAHAHHHAHAHAHHAHA! *gasp*BWWHAAHAHHAHHAAAHAHAHHHAHAHAHHAHA! *gasp* BWWHAAHAHHAHHAAAHAHAHHHAHAHAHHAHA! You:*Pondering lifetime of friends razzing you about this incident, or commiting seppaku to mercifully end your shame.*
I agree with the shoe; a very good one, and I allso agree with the pholosophers that allways reminds us that it ultemately is the weaponwielder that is the most relevant, but I choose to fefine a "weapon" as a tool for enhancing damagepotential. Despite a valiant effort to launch a thread not quite as general as the dreaded "favourite thread"-threads, it still is quite general, so I narrows it to the following 3 questions: A: what's the most effective weapon that is allowed on the street? B: what's the most effective weapon that is accessible on the street? C: what's the most effective weapon to use in a street-brawl? To "A", I'd say that it depends on where in the world you live in. In USA, it's legal to walk around with semiautomatic assault-rifles, so I guess those can be regarded as fairly effective... To "B", I'd say that it depends on where in the world you live in. In stony Norway, with nature and all, I'd say that a branch from a nearby tree or a stone could be of the more readily available items I regard as effective -to me, that is. In a country littered with metropols, I'd guess glassbottles, chains, trashcanlids, broken glass, etc. is the most readily available materials. (In an office, I'd definately go for the fans; see "meaning of life with monthy python ) To "C", there cannot either be one general answer for everybody. The nunchako-specialist should search for a chain, or a piece of rope with some stuff attached in the end(s)/or his belt, a knifethrower should pick up stones, a stickfighter should search for sticks, etc.
I would say you dont need a weapon on the street! If you know how to disarm then any weapon is supplied for you!!!
massaki: Even if you can disarm somebody it is still a huge disadvantage to be up against an opponent with a knife. For all you know they could be an expert in some martial art, meaning that you would be screwed if they challenged you.
Assuming that the other person is nice and co-operative and doesn't, for example, stab you while you try to make them let go of their knife.
Eh, if you know anything about knife disarms, the first thing you know is to expect to get cut. You just minimize the damage to yourself, get the knife away, and maximise the damage to the other guy.
Basically Yeah, so maybe I created a thread to reply to it and spout my opinions without actually writing an article. Check it out. A nice, heavy maglight with a strap, because it can be taken anywhere. ANYWHERE. I might be wrong, but I am under the impression that they let you carry flaslights on planes, even large deadly flashlights. One downward strike from one of those would absolutely ruin an attacker's jaw (or shall we say 'the artist formerly known as his jaw'), and it has (IMO) several advantages over a knife. 1. Lights come out of pockets easily- there's nothing for a maglight to get caught on. 2. Once the flashlight is out, it's out. There's nothing you have to press or open to make it a deadly weapon. 3. There is a possibility that people won't register your flashlight as a weapon until it is too late. Not the same with a knife. 4. When you go to court, the prosecuting attorney will not be able to say "The knife-wielding psychopath smuggled a knife onto the aircraft..." It's a FLASHLIGHT. People who carry knives and knuckle-dusters give the impression that they are looking for fights. People who carry flashlights don't. By it's very nature, it looks like an improvised weapon, albeit one with the stopping power of an aluminum bat.
I say carry a grandma with you that carries a lot of stuff in her purse..... As corney as that sounds, two guys literally ran from the fight they jumped me with when she came in and started swinging that purse around and flailing a couple teeth. Really, I agree with the flashlight deal. Especially if you even have a purpose to carry it like being an engineer or even construction worker off the job. Either a flashlight or some other hefty small cudgel. I carry a butterfly knife with me when I'm not going anywhere that doesn't allow weapons, like campus or law affiliates. When I get the chance, I'm going to get my broadsword registered and carry it with me under peace-bound like a pull tie and carry a small thumb knife so I can easilly break that when I necessarilly have to. I even have it practiced and can do all that in under 1.9 seconds if my hand's already in my pocket, and at the end of that time I've already executed a devistational down-slice. I go with the flashlight deal just because it's a lot simpler. Though I love my swords too much..
