recently i have been reading on different martial arts sites on shaolin-do kungfu and have came to see that many people do not look kindly at the art. i have been in kung fu on and off for 2 years and i am willing to answer any questions about the history, art or anything else you may want to know.

    What's the difference between shaolin-do and shaolin-don't?

No seriously, what is shaolin-do? Is it different from just Shaolin? Shaolin-wushu?

The Shaolin Temples were the equivalent of universities for the martial arts. Masters were professors, each of them a specialist in a particular area of training. Temples were known for a particular style, just like medical schools of today. Monks at each temple still practiced the forms from the other temples, but they specialized in the style for which their particular temple was known for.
Over the course of time, an untold amount of martial knowledge was housed at the Shaolin temples. In order to better systematize this material, the techniques, motions and fighting applications of major systems were housed within eighteen forms; medium sized systems were housed within twelve forms; and smaller systems were housed within six or fewer forms.
The Shaolin system as taught today is comprised of more than fifty styles and nine hundred forms. From this enormous body of material, today's Shaolin Do practitioners receive a broad-based martial education that covers the entire spectrum of martial arts philosophy and technique. The Shaolin Do curriculum teaches its practitioners sound fundamentals and provides each practitioner with the appropriate mental and physical challenge for their level of training.
Shaolin Do is a traditional martial art providing its practitioners with time-proven self defense techniques. Shaolin Do strengthens the body and sharpens the mind, leading to a longer, more productive, and healthier life. Shaolin Do is the most complete and comprehensive martial arts system in the world.

You may want to retract that. There was another zealot poster here who challenged a Shaolin-Do school in Texas. He got clobbered. I'm not sure if this is the same chain or not. But here's the thread.

so a 9 month BJJ white belt beats a shaolin do second degree black belt- and then loses to a fresh 2nd degree. that OBVIOUSLY shows how awesome shaolin do is at fighting.

well there is not one true martial arts every style can be defeated by another no matter who says what no one is invincible. in any style you can recieve a belt if you memorize the material or requirements but to learn it and have it become part of you as a normal movement is different. i didn't say shaolin-do people are unbeatable at all. i also bet another style white belt could defeat that white belt in bjj.

Actually, as I remember he did Muay Thai and BBJ and had done a Vietnamse form of kung fu in the past, that I can remember, there may be other arts that he practiced as well.

yeah, a couple of months of it. and I dont count the time I spent doing mcdojo crap either. face it, shaolin do is a walking talking mcdojo. apart from combining two words from different cultures, every clip i have seen of their training is the same- no live training, slow, barely touching sparring, and loads of kata. yawn.

    Have you tried it?

    no?....what a surprise.

unless you have proof i recommend you keep you non-contributory, unpleasant comments to yourself.

Any more commens like these will be dealt with in a rather "i haven't actually read it , but i'll criticise it anyway...oh hell...i'll just delete it for the sake of it " manner.

    Kapeesh?

    Thank you :bang:

With all due respect, Ikken hasn't said anything that could really be considered out of line. His attitude IS markedly belligerent, but JTB's attitude is markedly evasive. Further to the point, even Ikken's attitude isn't anything out of the usual on MAP: I see similar posts all the time in Philosophy and General Discussion.

Shaolin-Do is an extremely questionable art. Even its name, as Ikken observed, is extremely questionable. While he certainly can't be accused of sugar-coating his words, every single point he's mentioned has been 100% valid.

its only valid if he's tried it.

    I disagree.

I don't feel I have to try an art to be able to offer an opinion on it.

Im at loss with the whole arguement, why are they even belts involved in this shaolin discussion? Last I heard you get a sash when you have to spar so that your organs dont shake so much, the whole 2nd degree black belts in shaolin kung fu is just plain weird. On another note: I agree 100% that shaolin kung fu and everything that is shaolin for that matter is a huge mcdojo market with wing chun following close by, if you manage to find a good shaolin school or wing chun school you are indeed in luck.
