i'm still learning shinto but once i've mastered it, no doubt that it would be my favourite too. Otherwist atm my favourite kata would probably be ...hmmm.... erm ... pinan godan.

I'm just a big, big kushanku (a.k.a. kanku dai) fan.

  9. Jion for me ...
Deep stance work ... sharp movement, dynamic tension, sharp movement once again. It flows well with

I remember Sensei Enoeda liked to give it as a sentei kata to nidan candidates who were 'leggy' (he certainly did me!).

    Cheers

Great question, hard question...so in order:

1./ Hangetsu, I love this ugly kata. It builds so much power.
2./ Hyakuhatchiho, still waiting to learn this one.
3./ Gankaku, gotta love this white crane kata.
    4./ Sochin.

wow, i'm surprised at how many people like chinto. kusanku (kanku dai) is great too. i just like chinto more because i'm better at it. i also like the isshinryu kata sunsu. its not all that impressive looking, but it has a lot of emphasis on street moves and close in fighting, which makes it almost as fun as chinto, but not quite  .

Now lets add the version of each, I have been taught to date, I have trained a few styles of Karate.

    4 versions of siesan
3 versions of seiuchin ( sp)
    4 versions of chinto
    2 versions of sunsu/suansu

My fav, sunsu as taught in ISSHINRYU.

Nobody spotted my 'deliberate' (*cough*) mistake.

    Ooooops.

I don't really have a favourite, but I do like Gankaku. I will always have a space in my heart for Jitte, because it was the only 'advanced' kata I was taught at my first club.

yes I noticed it, dont think the others know what it is tho. :bang:

    open handed kata:
sanchin, tensho and seiunchin [oh! and naihanchin nidan for its viciousness!]
probably tensho 1st then sanchin, I have a love/hate relationship at the moment with seiunchin because its my grading requirement kata.... but I do like it.

    weapons:
bo - all of them! I love bo kata
nunchaku kata - I'm still learning it [about 1/2 way thru now] but I like it too, not sure if ours is a traditional one though.
