The Unofficial Alternative Posting Guide

    The unofficial alternative posting guide.

If you are new to this forum, and you are having difficulties or are at allunsure how you are doing, I crave with you a quiet word. This is not an officially endorsed guide, nor am I a moderator. I am simply a person who is interested in you newbie's continued wellbeing.

1.A good reason why you should read this.
The mods and admins here are nice people with a heart of gold, who will
try not to belittle you if they find your manner offensive. I am not. I
am about to tell you several things which will make your stay here much
more pleasant- these are generally things that I and other posters find
    irritating.

2.I strongly advise you to regard this forum as an extension to your
normal, everyday life. Would you storm into a pub and start insulting
people's knowledge and abilities? then don't do it here. Try and MEET
some of these people. This will greatly cut down on any friction you
    might create.

    3.If you don't know-LURK!
It is very unwise to post a great amount of material about something
you don't really know much about. Avoid posting on a serious thread
unless you know what is being spoken about or wish to have something
    explained to you.

4.Be prepared to assume that other people know more than you do.
If your general level of knowledge is quite low, there's nothing wrong
with this. That's what this site is about! we have some very
knowledgable people on this site. But DO NOT ABSOLUTELY DO NOT argue at
length and from ignorance. This is something I personally find
annoying, and if I see you doing it, I will say so.

    5.Post in good faith.
This is very important. It is very very easy to become sucked into lies
and deceit on the internet. Do not invent any facts about your past or
your level of experience. Some of you know exactly what I am talking
about. We WILL find out and it is much easier than you realise to tell
    from how you post.

    6.Contribute.
On the other hand, if your level of knowledge in an area is quite high,
by all means share some of it. Or if you find a cool site or a funny
news story- I and others want to hear about it. Don't be shy.

7.Avoid using l33t H4xxor5PeaK or any other meaningless form of communication
Just don't. This stopped being cool about the middle of last
century.I'd also advise you to refrain from using such time-saving
techniques as spelling 'You are' as 'U R'. Even if you ARE posting
sensibly, in good faith and in a contributive manner, people will get
annoyed if you try a stunt like that. These tricks effectively
marginalise you as a forum member.

8.Learn to recognise and deal with it when you are being mocked.
This will happen especially if you choose to ignore any of the above
rules. There is nothing terribly hard about this and I won't insult
your intellect by offering any pointers. By 'deal with it', I mean
develop some form of coping strategy. If the other person has a point,
which he often will, it is not helpful to respond by defending yourself
in an aggressive manner. If you feel you are being treated unfairly, it
will become apparent in due course. If, on the other hand, you are
insulted for no reason at all, do NOT break any forum rules. With the
best will in the world, it will occasionally be necessary for you to
defend yourself verbally. Do so in a way that does not get you
    sinbinned or banned.

9.If you make a mistake, MOVE THE HELL ON.
I myself have been guilty of breaking practically every single one of
the above rules- then again, I have been banned several times and this
has seriously damaged my standing on the forum. Some of our members
have actually been removed from this forum for failing to let go of a
grudge. Learn to accept when you have behaved wrongly. If you DO break
any rules, move on, make an effort to forgive any other party involved,
and most importantly- Don't do it again.

10.ENJOY! Now you've read all that, go ahead and enjoy your time here.
This is a fun, friendly forum, and if you obey the above rules,
hopefully, it will stay that way. I don't mean the above post to scare
any of you newbies in any way.
