I believe he now goes by the name of Shi DeLon and teaches Chi Kung and Tai Chi.

Try checking out www.shaolin.org.uk

Good luck.

Two of my private students trained with him years ago - they had nothing but good to say about him.

Nice thread. I always wondered what happened to Tony Leung. He was quite high progile back in the late 80s with numerous articles in Combat mag.

Shi De Lon sure does look like him and he seems to teach Mantis as well as qigong/chen tai chi.

Interesting.

heard that his system (steelwire) although freestyle (2 or 3 styles combined), was very very good. his students were supposed to be good and well conditioned too (all that forearm work). last i heard, he tried to set up a full time training course which failed and left the country..

i was a first gen student of his and as far as im concerned he was a good guy. Ive lost track of him myself over the last 5 yrs, the last i heard in recent time was that he was doing training in a building near Kings Cross that had recently been opened by a lord?!? so that was as helpful to me as it probably is to anyone else ; /

Tony Leung

..Is indeed now called Shi DeLon, a name bestowed on him by the Shaolin Monks on opening a (the first?) Shaolin temple in the UK. He is a lay Shaolin monk, and is teaching "Chen" style Tai Chi, which although I haven't seen it is reputed to be perhaps one of the few styles even more direct and vicious than Southern Mantis, which with the slightly different emphasis that Tony put on his "Steelwire" system, was pretty tasty in it's own right.

I trained with Tony in the laste 80's and early 90's @ theTemple School in London Bridge and had the "honour" of feeling the awesome speed, power & of the man in person, and as far as i'm concerned, if Tony thinks that's the way to go, it probably is...

I know nothing of any "not so good things heard" of him, but suffice to say whatever the supposed rumours were / are, they won't be being said openly, and i very much doubt anyone would repeat them to his face.

This is not strictly true as he taught Chow Gar Mantis and Hung Gar alongside each other, but never actually mixed them to create a 'new' style.

Like ThaiMantis, I trained with him at London Bridge, also occasionally with him at Mile End and Islington.

Although I am not very good with names I am sure that I would know and recognise him, and maybe tomanski, should I ever bump into them.

Since Tony Leung went back to China I have resumed my training and it seems to me that he either did not know the full mantis system, or he refused to teach it. This judgement is based on what I know now compared with the stuff I and my si hing were taught.

Having said this, Tony Leungs kung fu knowledge and skill is of the utmost quality, with out a doubt one of the best in the country, and I owe him a debt for setting me on my kung fu path.

If anyone is interested I saw a poster in London's Chinatown advertising his school at the Africa Centre in Covent Garden on Weds and Thurs from 7:15 and I will definately be paying him a courtesy visit when time allows.

Thank you all for your interest in Sifu Tony Leung.

It has been just over 5 years since the Steelwire School in Islington shut down. Sifu Leung was called back to H.K because of family responsibilites. As a consequence he could not quarantee his training schedule. He felt it best too shut the school. These last years have however been very productive for Sifu Leung. As ThaiMantis has stated, he has become a Shaolin Layman disicple. I was there in Shaolin temple in 2001, to witness his acceptance by the former abbot Shi Su Xie, being given the name Shi De Lon. I was also there on his inital meeting with Chen Zheng Lei, with whom Sifu Leung also became an indoor disicple.

His learning Chen TaiJi, along with the lesser know internal Shaolin Rou Quan along with Shaolin's short hand boxing systems, Shaolin Duan Da. Has meant that both his understanding and technical ability have increased significantly.

This in turn has led him to believe that SPM as taught to him in H.K was wrong. That the methods were too external. That Chow Gar SPM, is a truly internal system, and using the new knowledge given too him and the Sonnets and poems given by SPM founding fathers. He aims to reinterpret SPM true to the guidelines laid out in the SPM sonnets.

He is current teaching Chen TaiJi and Qi Gong. There are small classes in and around london. Full details can be found by contacting me, or using the contact details on the website: www.shaolin.org.uk

In addition too this, he has also been accepted at ShanDong university to carry out a Phd on Qi Gong Chinese anicent Science of Cosmic & Human energy. If you have an queries or comments, you can contact me or use the website

Thank you.

I cant think of anyone with a better grasp of Chi to study it. formally. Imagine if the western world of science and sceptics could be made to look again seriously.

now that would be an achievement..
