I have wanted to begin in buddhist meditation for a long time in order to be able to fully clear my mind, how should I go about doing this? There are no groups by me.

There are no Buddhist groups near you? I find that pretty hard to believe. Where are you (general area)?

Sorry, i was pretty rushed when writing the original message, what i meant to say was that i cannot go to any groups, because my parents are pretty devout catholics, and they would not let me go. Theres no point in me trying to persuade them, its a 100% nono. :(

Sounds like a very healthy, non-abusive family situation.

No, my devout catholic parents abuse me in the shed.
Any point to your post other than to offend my family?

    You could look into mindfulness.
It doesn't have to have buddhist connotations (although that's where it comes from I think).

A basic form of Buddhist meditation is to sit quietly and count your breaths. Every time you breath out count. When you get to 10 start over. When you lose count because your mind wanders, and it will, start over. Don't worry about it when your mind wanders, just when you notice it go gently back to your counting and don't fuss over losing count.

    That's it.

Google counting breaths if you want even more detail.

This is just one way to meditate and is probably the easiest.

Thanks, i'll look into that; my parents wont mind if i meditate or anything, they just dont want me going off and practising actual buddhism. Theyre pretty open minded, they dont mind me doing tricking and that sort of thing, but they just could get upset if i became a buddhist or something.

BTW, what are you trying to clear your mind of?

Mindfulness has become part of mainstream psychology and counselling.
    No buddhism needed.

Was just thinking, there are some christian related meditation traditions and the like. Maybe something like that would be more up your street. Can have a look at the following:

They've never forced me to believe anything, if you dont have anything productive to say, maybe you could stop trolling and stop replying?

Do know that Buddhism has nothing to do with god? Although Buddhist teachings make it pretty hard to believe in a creator god.

I strongly suggest you start another thread where you can go down this road. It's rather obvious this isn't the thread for it. Move on.

Instead of going Buddhist, you could research Christian meditation. The Desert Monks were very into it. Eastern Orthodoxy has a tradition of the "Jesus Prayer" that clears the mind.

How did it work out for you Allers?

I recently started practicing zen. You might find it worth looking into it. Although it's Buddhism it focuses on meditation practice, Zen means meditate/meditative state.

Here's an easy guide...I sit Burmese style (see pic) and count as another poster has described.
