Should a judoka start ju jitsu????

Hi I’m martin and I have studied judo for a number of years and I want to start another martial art for self-defence purposes. As I have done judo and judo originated from ju jitsu it might be easier than doing karate or something like that, as I have all the throwing techniques which will make it easier. I was wondering if anyone had any advice if I should do it or not and if there are any judoka out there that have done this. Your help will be much appreciated

It's not as easy a transition as you might expect, but I found it to be a worthwhile venture. Best bet is to give it a go and see what you think

Yes, I did judo for some time before deciding to try jujutsu. After that I never looked back. For me, jujutsu is right, it's what I feel I should have been doing all along. May not be the same for you, but the only way to find out is to go and try jujutsu. If you don't like it, nothing lost, if you do, something gained. It's a good deal

Yes I think you should give Jujitsu a try. I studied Judo as a child and now as a adult ive changed over to Jujitsu. I love throws but they simply arn't enough to combat all self defence situations. Jujitsu has all the throws plus the strikes, joint locking, etc. The way I look at it is- I was attacked by a large group of fella's and they were all throwing punches and kicking. Unfortunately they didnt grab my lapels, pity. There can be problems changing over though. Jujitsu if dones correctly should be done using little force or strength. I found that it was hard to get used to not using force to throw somebody about. Good luck!

yea i see what u mean but u dnt need ur opponent to grab ur collar but yes i wanted to learn the strikes and i am part of an association in which the use of strenght is not needed for out techniques althought it will help slightly. my judo sensai studdied ju jitsu for a while and he said i wud find it fustrating as they would teach the techniques differently to judo this will proably be my biggest problem.

it all depends on what style of ju jutsu.... some styles have different techniques others have different entries... i enjoy the "modern" styles of ju jutsu because they tend to combine kodokan judo techniques into their ju jutsu.... right now i take a "modern" combative style of ju jutsu and the only difference in throws is simply the entry.. other than that its kodokan all the way... ive been doing judo for about 12 years now and i jus started ju jutsu and its great doing my judo with the ju jutsu because it helps you complete you as a martial artist....you also learn techniques without the dependence on a gi.. but i feel that the transition for you will be an easy one... judo is a great foundation to move onto most arts especially ju jutsu

good luck to you

my friend ali sulit (ateneo judo, national team judo and later founder of judo grappling school) is now training with bjj revolution/ new breed (philippines).

great fighter. had great sound techniques. it works for him (both ways. his judo helps him in bjj nad his bjj helps his judo).

it may work for you. just try it out for a few months. but remember, during lessons, try to come with an empty cup. synergise later during the randori.
