Hey, does anyone know anything about Luke Holloway and his Raw Combat team? They are from Australia and hold seminars internationally.

Luke's background seems to be mostly in silat and muay thai. He calls his system "tactical fighting method" and is based on urban self defense and survival. He seems like a very reputable instructor and has consulted many security professionals internationally. I've been following his videos on youtube for a long time now. I'm surprised he's never been mentioned on MAP.

Have a look at his material

He's holding a couple of seminars in Melbourne, which I'm planning on attending. One of them is a women's self defense class.

Has anyone had any experience with this guy?

    He is a fraud

I will post more later when I am not on an iPhone, but suffice to say little he has claimed has lived up to scrutiny

    I don't know, there's some humour value...

For those playing at home (and frequent the Ninja forum), the guy with the chain here claims to be a student of Kacem Zoughari....

Thanks Hannibal, I'll read through that. I might still go to his seminar. $40 for 3 hours isn't too much, and I'm curious to see his approach to women's self defense.

Mr Parker, I've seen that video :) There's another one of him mucking around with a "shaolin monk"....so I guess he does that kinda stuff for a bit of entertainment.

Regardless of the lack of proof of his credentials and some ridiculous videos of ninjas and shaolin monks, his take on self defense seems fairly decent. But it's hard to judge his actual skill level from those videos, so I was hoping someone here had trained with him.

Trust me, spend 30 bucks on a movie date - at least there you are engaged in harmless make-believe

His regular stuff is gash so why would women's be any different?

Or, maybe instead check out someone like Rob Halajiain over in footscray, or Jim Armstrong in Glen Waverly? Either would be an excellent choice.

Jim Armstrong appears to be from the same organization.

For the record, I'm not looking to take up another martial art. I was just going to attend a self defense seminar to see what I could learn from it and how it differs from "martial arts". We cover self defense at my school, but it's always interesting to see other perspectives, particularly women's self defense.

The same org. as Rob Halajian, maybe. But his Raw Combatives is a different group from Luke Holloway's Raw Combat.

I mentioned Jim Armstrong because he has a very good reputation, and is a Senshido instructor. I have never met him (let alone trained under him), but people whom I trust hold him in high regard.

Rob Halajian I mentioned as I have been to a seminar hosted by his academy, and know they run self defense seminars. Their youtube channel, to give you some idea is here: http://www.youtube.com/user/venomaustralia?feature=watch

and Jim Armstrong's website is: http://www.rawcombatives.com.au/
