He is a Chief Master Sergeant in the USAF serving in Afghanistan As high as you can go in enlisted ranks (E-9) Wouldn't it be fitting if this went completely around the world! John Gebhardt's wife, Mindy, said that this little girl's entire family was executed. The insurgents intended to execute the little girl also, and shot her in the head...but they failed to kill her. She was cared for in John 's hospital and is healing up, but continues to cry and moan. The nurses said John is the only one who seems to calm her down, so John has spent the last four nights holding her while they both slept in that chair. The girl is coming along with her healing. He is a real Star of the war, and represents what the combined service is trying to do. This, my friends, is worth sharing. Go for it!! You'll never see things like this in the news. Please keep this going. Nothing will happen if you don't, but the world needs to see pictures like this and needs to realised that what we're doing over there is making a difference. Even if it is just one little girl at a time.
Real picture, wrong story...it is actually dated from around sept 2006 and is an Iraqi orphan girl http://www.snopes.com/photos/military/gebhardt.asp Sadly these type of images often resurface as propoganda for the latest military actions - which undermines the true value of the stories they tell
In some ways it doesn't matter. People on the ground whenever and wherever are people. I'm sure there are some real gits in the armed forces of all nations, but I'm equally sure that there are people like this who are simply decent human beings who recognise a child that needs comforting and will do that regardless. Spot on. And like it or not it applies to our enemies too. Take your newfound love for Thatcher, for example... Mitch
Did he apply for this position, was it a unanimous vote and does he have to seek re-election? Just sayin' 'cos Moi needs a job.
MAP AGMs are kind of like auctions: if you move, or scratch, you've just nominated and unanimously elected yourself for a position. Also, international drinking rules apply. Funny thing though - when the MAP 'executive relief officer' spot came open, Mitch started gyrating atop the table...
