Finally completed our move from Cincinnati to Deliverance country. Can anyone recommend any good north Atlanta schools for me and the bairns? I'm looking for a good old-school style boxing gym or an actual MMA school. Wouldn't rule out TMA if something along the lines of Kyo. Cheers,
I have a friend that lives in the area, lol. I don't think he's picked up martial arts although he was looking into doing JKD. I don't think ol' Georgia has a lot of people who use the interwebz. You might want to try Bullshido for recommendations. It's U.S. based so there's naturally more people in different areas to give advice.
Hey Fusen, you're spot on about that! Yeah, people move down here from as far away as NY to attend. Great BJJ/grappling school from all accounts. I talked with them and we definitely going to check it out when the kids decide to reincorporate BJJ back into the game.
I live in the Kennesaw/Marietta area just NW of Atlanta. Again, for BJJ in the SE, it's hard to beat Alliance. Before money got tight, I was shopping around for a good boxing gym. Delgado came up. I think they even have a rudimentary MMA program, which as of two or three years ago was taught by a blue belt; I'm sure some of that has changed since. There's also Creighton BJJ taught by a Renzo Gracie BB: http://paulcreighton.com/brazilian-jiu-jitsu There's also Ascension MMA, run by the Assuncao brothers: http://www.ascensionmma.com/ There's also Bangkok Boxing, for a little Muay Thai/MMA. Got a buddy who goes there and loves it: http://www.bangkokboxingfitness.com/ There's also Unit 2 Fitness, run by UFC vet/old-school fighter Roberto Traven: http://www.unit2fitness.com/ Finally, there's X3. Their guys are always in shape: http://x3sports.com/?gclid=CjkKEQjw...sU6uwkgk_mdLNIvgcVE2FEn4eiVVslEPm19zb6NHw_wcB I'm more familiar with the ones out my way, but those are the ones that come to mind in Atlanta itself.
I canna thank you enough! Yes, I've heard of Bangkok boxing and of course Alliance. I think I ruled out Bangkok due to the distance, IIRC - we live in Cumming - north and a few degrees east or west. Unlike Ohio, getting somewhere - anywhere - here takes time. Lots of it. As you undoubtably know. The GPS says 45+ min to Delgado - so....I'm determined to stay of bleeding 400 which seems to pile up at 3pm. Some enterprising person should start a heli-taxi service out here. I'll check Ascension MMA and Unit 2. Our last school in Ohio was run by former UFC people and we had good experiences there. Thanks much!
Huh. Got the impression you were inside the 285 perimeter. In that case, you might also try Striker Fight Center. Good coaching staff. Depending on where you live in Cumming, it might be a shorter drive: http://strikerfightmma.com/
Alright! Will do. We're going to Delgado's today/tomorrow and then we'll look at Striker - Thank you kindly for telling me of it; I really didn't think there'd be anything close to Cumming. You hear of anymore; I'll all ears
Did your friend at Khunpon's Bangkok Boxing say whether the Western Boxing Class was primarily fitness oriented or was an actual boxing class focused on techniques, footwork, sparring, etc.,? Cheers,
Hey, sorry for the late reply. Internet is intermittent for me lately. Dude says the boxing class is mostly a fitness class. He recommends, and I'd second it, that if boxing's your bag, a pure boxing gym would probably be a better idea. I know Striker had a pretty legit program for an MMA gym, but I don't know how that's changed; they lost a really good coach to cancer last year, and I don't know anything about his replacement.
Thanks, Fuzzy. Sorry for the long delay in responding. I've not been able to get on the last few weeks due to the wife's health. I've found a couple of potential places in Alpharetta, just need to get out to check them.
Union Team BJJ If you're looking to learn brazilian jiu jitsu (gi and no-gi), all classes at Union Team BJJ are taught by an 8th degree black belt, Ricardo Murgel. It's located in Alpharetta, GA. http://www.unionteambjj.com
OP's not been around for a good while tho' I realise this may be of interest to other Atlanteans. Shame 'cos he was an interesting contributor on this forum, miss having you around Bubs !
