Just wondering if you got to go to Iwama at all? And what was it like training at Hombu dojo?

Nope never made it to Iwama, despite making several email requests and one written letter (in Japanese) for permission to visit, I never had a reply.

My trip to Japan was cancelled at pretty much last minute due to a family issue.

Sorry to hear that you never made it over. Would have been great to hear your perceptions on Iwama aikido. Is your visit to Japan to go ahead at a future date?

    Hi

First, thanks, this is a great link and seems very interesting, and it would be like a dream come true for me to be able to combine my passions for travelling, discovering other culture( you dont care, but im presently in this small maya ixil village far out in guatemala, and its great!) and martial art.
But from what you said, despite the inviting nature of the site, it seems kind of hard to get in. Ive done Aikido for about two year, and our dojo, tired of politics, changed for aiki ju jitsu ( nintai ryu, for those who knows). So was it a misunderstanding of my part, or being only a 4 kyu aiki ju jitsu doka with some background in aikido and wanting to train and to commit myself seriously to go back to the roots of aikido, i have no chance of being accepted?

Also, just curious, but how much do a 3 months stay at the dojo could cost, approximatively? Without including plane ticket?

First just want to say ive been out of the loop for ages now, im busy training in iwama just now,
second, just want to add the webaddress i first posted of iwamasaito.com is a false site.
i found this out a while ago, turns out some spoon from america decided to set this site up without senseis permission. Sensei does not even know the site exists.
so im sorry dave for all the crap before with your friend trying to go.
    his only website is iwamaaikido.com
but its only in nihongo just now. there are plans to for english but not yet.
most of what is written in the first site is rubbish. you cant just turn up at the dojo. its the same rules that applied when his father was in charge at the old ibaraki dojo hitohiro has now left the aikikai and the osenseis dojo, now has his own dojo and organisation in iwama)
which is you must have atleast 6 months to 1 years experiance of iwama style aikido with someone saito sensei recognises as a an iwama teacher.
if you are in the aikikai you can still go to iwama and train at the old dojo (Osenseis) they have more info on the honbu website- http://www.aikikai.or.jp/eng/index.htm
    under the ibaraki shibu dojo.

also the cost for 1 months uchideshi under saito sensei is 75,000 yen a month plus food costs.
sorry about all that folks. the guy has been asked to remove the site but refuses.

As I am new to this site I am find myself repling to threads that have been posted years ago, but I feel I should reply to some threads like this one.
When Koyo and my dad brought Sekiya Shihan to Glasgow their dojo was opened to ALL that practised Aikido. At Bellahouston club it was packed for 3 nights in a row at Makotokai (Habonim Centre) the same, then they took Sekiya Shihan to the late Sensei Girvan's club in Cumbernauld again the same result. It proves that poitics have no place in Aikido.Practise is the answer.
