I prefer films for grown-ups rather than films with people in spandex who have been bitten by radioactive anchovies or something. But I do love apes so finally got around to watching Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. not too bad at all. I honestly don't think it was as good as the first one in the new series and was a bit disappointed with Oldman, who is one of my favourite actors, but a decent enough flick!

It went by pretty fast too which is always a good sign. I decided to grab some food "half way through" and when I paused the film realised that I had only 30 or so mins left!

Think I'll watch it again before the 48 hrs rent is up.

Marking off one of my bucket list items by going to watch an 'Alien' and 'Aliens' (remastered director's cut versions) double bill at the cinema tonight. Seen both films a dozen times but never on the big screen.

    I am :)

Oculus. Worth watching. Quite well put together I thought.

300: Rise of an Empire. Entertaining, but milking the popularity of the first film.

    Interstellar.

Been sat here for 10 minutes trying to come up with words to adequately describe how good this film is.

The usual suspects - incredible, great, amazing, etc - don't do it justice.

    "Magical" just might.

'Interstellar' is the first film since 'The Matrix' fifteen years ago that evokes all the things that the magic of cinema means to me. CGI, music score, acting, all that stuff on the surface was done to perfection. Chris Nolan is THE best director of his generation, possibly ever.

But 'Interstellar' goes far beyond that. It left me awestruck, fearful, excited, sad, laughing, and pretty much every other aspect on the emotional spectrum. It made me ponder about the human race - what defines us individually and as a collective species, and where evolution will take us next. You will definitely be thinking "big picture" long after you leave the cinema, and your eyes won't dry for a week.

    100% genuine 10 out of 10.

    PS
Some people criticised what they perceived to be plot holes without realising the film is based on theoretical equations (on wormholes and black holes) by Dr Kip Thorne, a leading theoretical physicist who served as a consultant. The black hole CGI was rendered using new technology which bases its designs on data collected from observing the effects of black holes - essentially the closest we have come to a visual representation of black holes.

Crows Zero 3 aka Crows Explode, was very excited to hear they finally decided to make a part 3 as fans have been wanting this for years. The story was more emotional and less comic than the first two and the action a lot more believable. Thoroughly enjoyed it, IMO the best form of live action Manga yet. 7/10

Great Japanese rock music in the movie too.

Dracula Untold, thought it was very enjoyable other than the historical inaccuracies, the message board on IMDB were highly entertaining on some of the debates about the history. 7/10

    All is Lost

It's a movie with only one character, and no dialogue.
    ... Wait, what?

Yes. Robert Redford is a sailor who gets lost at sea after a stray shipping container knocks a hole in his sailboat. There's no one else in the movie, so there's no one for him to talk to, so there's no talking. Okay, okay, there were a few sentences of soliloquy to start the movie going, but otherwise --

Wait, what? A movie with no characters and no talking?

And it's actually pretty good. It's a survival movie, one of those man versus nature stories. Redford has to figure out how to survive on the open sea on a sinking vessel long enough to sight another ship, and then hail down said ship. His condition gets pretty sad, as you would expect.

"Captain America: Winter Soldier." I've seen it already but watched the disk twice in the last few days. So good. I love the choreography that comes up in a few places wherein Cap goes totally comic book in how he moves and fights. Like, when he parachutes without a parachute to the ship, then sprints down the length of the ship taking out a dozen pirates. It's totally comic book, but it looks so excellent on film.

My favorite is when he takes down an airplane with just his shield. Complete comic book, but gawwwwd is it beautiful! I replayed that scene several times.

When you're making a superhero movie with live actors, that's what you're supposed to do. You're supposed to bring the comic book action to life. "On your left." LOL!

I watched "The Raid 2" recently. What a disappointment. I really like "The Raid" and so was looking forward to the sequel. It looks great, brilliant fight choreography, slick editing and shot composition. But gawd blimey the story and script are awful. Couldn't work out what was going on, who was trying to kill who or even what the main dude was trying to achieve. I ended up watching it on "porno" mode and fast forwarded through the talking to get to the good stuff. At one point the bad guy from the first raid, who I could swear got killed in the last film, showed up, killed some guys and then got killed. I've no idea why. The main dude ends up in prison for 2 years rather than 2 months and his wife was all like "meh". Very weird film. A wasted opportunity IMHO. 3/10.

Hahah...I've just read the plot synopsis of "The Raid 2" and I literally had no idea what happened in the first scene of the film.

As I posted many months back, I really liked The Raid and I am not a fan of action and MA films, so it says a lot about the film imo. But The Raid 2 was just a mess, it was painful to watch.

And I don't know what the hype was about concerning Prakoso / Yayan Ruhian he was only in the film for a second or two...

Thirded. I thought The Raid 2 was a mess. I enjoyed the choreography as well, but the plot was convoluted and dragged on too long. It wasn't enough to dampen my hopes for their future efforts. I liked The Raid and Merentau (their first collaboration). So I'll absolutely see their next.

There was a plot? Where?? ;)

I will give the next one a pop as the first one was so good, but I won't be expecting much from it.

The Raid 2 got a better rating than The Raid on IMDB. And the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes for R2 was higher than the first one!

Edit: How does a plot drag on too long? Reminds me of a character in The League of Gentlemen who claimed he didn't like "that Bradley Pitt anyway...too much acting"
