I would imagine it will be before or after May. Floyd always fights in May and Sept. Cotto has fought several times in June, but the fight could be earlier that that maybe.

I would have liked to have seen the George Groves - Golovkin spars.

Why? lol Golovkin would flatten him inside 5 rds. Golovkin can box much better than Froch can, and he has the power.

You think so? All reports I've seen say it was extremely confidence building for Groves. Whether or not they are accurate, who know's?

Name a fighter who can't box better than Froch. Love him, but he is technically ****. Abraham, maybe.

That's one benefit, at least, to amateur boxing - but it has its negatives as well.

Yeah, when its all commercialisation, all about the business side, all about the money, that is what can happen.

It needs a decided pull towards the opposite pole for a bit; hopefully to end up somewhere near the middle.

Golovkin looks impressive. The problem, as with many up and coming "scary" fighters is that they get in the ring with an elite and wind up looking like a normal man. Rubio has long been a shot fighter and has a lot of fights. Now, that's not to say Golovkin isn't the real deal, but as I've said before and it was mentioned again on hbo Saturday night... Andre ward has said again he will fight Golovkin any place, any time. The problem being that Golovkin is looking for money fights and understandably so, BUT! A win over ward would not only force people to notice him, but would put him likely at 2nd to Floyd on the p4p list. That alone would get him more fights.

You cannot fight all mediocre opposition and expect real boxing fans to get overly excited. Martinez was supposed to destroy cotto according to a lot of people. Instead he hardly laid a glove on cotto at all. Was it due to injury? Maybe. Maybe not. I don't believe Golovkin would beat ward which is why he is not even being acknowledged by anyone in his camp. Golovkin wants Alvarez, cotto, Floyd, etc.

On another note, Freddie roach has said he wants Alvarez and then Golovkin for cotto. I'll believe it when I see it.

GGG really won't pull in the numbers with Ward that such a fight (with its entailed risks) should pull in. Golovkin wants ( and should get ) big names with a relatively large fan base.

Which goes back to Holyhead's quoting of "In reality, boxing is less about facing the best than it is a business of theater." Is GGG really ducking the best for money or an easier fight?

But I'm not altogether convinced that Ward would be a good style matchup for GGG and from that perspective, one canna fault Gennady for not wanting the fight if others 'of equal or greater value' are available to him.

Ward tends to hold against the ropes as a way to neutralise some part of his opponents offense. Not so much that GGG and his crew believe that Ward is going to win a sound defeat, rather it would be quite a frustrating affair for Golovkin.

I do think Ward and Golovkin destined to meet one day - just not sure when that will be.

Besides isn't Ward still tied up with legal problems related to his promoter - which, in part, has kept him inactive for quite some time?

Don't know, his promoter died so I'm not sure where that leaves the legal situation.

Looks like Goosen's family may continue it.

Ward is a good man, however. I've much respect for him. Hope things work out and he gets the fights and recognition he deserves.

Looking at his record, do you think he deserves a World Title Shot? Is this just a symptom of no one else at Middleweight being willing to get KO'd by Golovkin?

    Pretty much.

The only name I recognise on Murray's Box Rec is Sergio Martinez - who delivered Martin Murray's only loss to date.

He's rated 8th ( #1 Middleweight in the U.K. ) so GGG isn't fighting a 'nobody' but its ... hardly anything to get excited for and I canna see this doing a thing for Golovkin except keeping him active.

I really think Gennady needs to bite the bullet and move up to Super-Mid before he wastes any more of his prime.

Murray holds the wbc belt that he won on Saturday. The belt was vacant. I would say he deserves a shot at the title. Golovkin wants to unify the titles anyway. I would say that Murray is better than Geale, maklin, and certainly Rubio.

Murray is much better than his resume suggests. He's also a very big mw, he's good at maintaining distance using his jab and his defense is a good tight shell. Martinez didn't win that fight against him, but if was in argentina so there you have it.

I didn't see the fight, shame on me - well, perhaps it'll (Murray/Golovkin) offer more than it seems at first glance.
