You may want it, but not really that much.

Judo is pretty cool however, and you'll get a lot out of it.

And there’s nothing wrong with admitting this, I used to do close to a 2 hour round trip to train no gi BJJ at a very good club, I did this several times a week for 5 years, then once a week for another 5 years, it came to the point where cost outweighed the benefits and I had to stop (wasn’t competing anymore and just training for fun) , I now go to a local (3 min drive) judo club once or twice a week and work my no gi on my own with some friends, the ground work is different but just as good in its own way, and unless you are looking for something very specific (ie to compete in BJJ) it is more than enough for most peoples needs
Plus you get to be thrown allot which is always fun

Yeah, it depends on what you want out of your ground work. Judo newaza is "close enough for guv'mint work" for most people's purposes. If you want to be a groundfighting specialist then BJJ is a better option by far. For the average person, Judo is a better bet since you'll learn a more diverse skill set overall. If your standing throws are weak (and you want to fix that) then Judo is a better bet. If you don't care about that, then go for BJJ. Each club will be different. I think mine is unusual in that full 50% of our training is newaza. I hear that's not so common.

Its also a case of diferent rules and intent creating a different environment, our judo club spends at least a third of every class on the ground but because of the rules of judo and limitations of attacks it has a much different feel than bjj, much more aggressive much quicker and more direct in its attacks less playful. But just as much fun lol

From what I read Judo is good but BJJ has bit more. But have you been in the ghetto? I have seen least 10 ghetto fights if not more. And when it goes to ground people swarm. If it stand up fight the thugs cheer the thug to beet him up. And cheer and watch the fight. When they go to ground people swarm.

If you in the ghetto never take the fight to the ground. I have spent time in Dallas and Miami hood at it not nice.

If you a home girl the homies will treat you better than if you a outsider.

God forbid - but why not do a (sports) martial art for the fun of it, and not to become a deadly fighting machine?

Reading in MA forums makes you wonder if the entire world lives in war zones.

I do "my" MAs for the fun.
    Being more healthy.
Self defense is a nice side effect, but not my main reason.

It often makes me wonder if any of these people have ever seen a real fight.

And brah, they were ghetto fights too! You know it makes it legit when you talk about the ghetto, the hood, and the homies.

Call me colonial, but is a ghetto fight worse than a pub fight, i need a way to rate this, i mean, ghetto would probably have more concrete, but pub would have more broken glass right?

I think he's using ghetto to refer to the involvement of black people. It's slightly better veiled than 'thug', I suppose.

Still, it begs the question, who should you fear more, the bar brawler or the ghetto street fighter?

Pub fights are 10 points less scary ever since you had to go to the garden to get an ashtray, but ghetto fights have also declined by 5.6% since America went post-racial. Bit of a toss up.

It's a shame Deadliest Warrior went belly up. I'm sure they would have been willing to feature that. I can picture it now.

Why would you need an ashtray when you can just use a jug?

Didn't the ufc already try to talk Ron Van Clief into fighting Tank Abbott though? It didn't go well if i recall.

Only poncey bars have jugs.

The question should have been "Why use an ashtray when you could just use a glass?"

But glassing someone is a really nasty thing to do. I'd call it an 'only-as-a-last-resort-when-cornered-by-several-attackers' option. That's how nasty it is.

As far as i am concerned, if you can't get a jug in a pub, the clientele is only pretending at alcoholism, and needs to step their game up.

I do agree, it is a rather terrible thing to do, but i did think we were kidding.

Not sure if serious, but no, Van Clief only had one fight, at UFC 4 vs. Royce Gracie. Abbott wouldn't debut until UFC 6.
