Some of you may remember me linking some of my kid's sparring. It's been a while since then so I thought I would share their progress. This sparring partner has a lot more experience so he has proven to be a great training partner. My daughter is in the black. Red Headgear. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1KAByd1YGI"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1KAByd1YGI[/ame] Her right hand is still proving to be one of her better punches. she is in the blue shirt in this one. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQGNlPMEdLs"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQGNlPMEdLs[/ame] My son can be challenging to coach as he dislikes tedious drilling and will avoid doing anything he considers boring as much as possible. In this sparring session for some reason he finally decided that it was worth using his jab. (I wager losing his first two fights to kids who used their jabs and footwork probably had something to do with it.) [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JakIW6ctkrc"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JakIW6ctkrc[/ame] Connor also recently learned the value of defensive footwork and head movement. Latest... So Morigan is starting to really get her range. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmO-p2TMrsc"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmO-p2TMrsc[/ame]
Not bad considering her aggressive, larger and more experienced sparring partner trying to knock her block off for 4 rounds - that's a lot for someone her age! Kudos for taking those shots and keep coming back - many, if not most, would've folded and given up. Only advise I'd give - and no doubt she's been given it - Work on her defence and learn to slip and duck! You guys know James Toney?!? Wow! Obviously in a real-deal fighter producing gym. I'm envious.
Here's one for you. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovAX58V6S5o"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovAX58V6S5o[/ame]
Morigan is the one in the red head gear. Her male sparring partner wears the pink gloves. Was not sure if I told you that.
Oh man, that was a nasty right. Had power to it as well - you can see the bloke's head snap back. She also seemed much more confident and was quicker than the one posted on the 2nd - she obviously learns from previous sparring matches instead of becoming gun shy - that's something they either have or don't. That was fun to watch.
My son's new big thing is ending sparring sessions with body punches. They don't look as visually appealing, but it's become consistent that it generally happens in the third round of every session.
