I'm a big fan of Robert Adams 'Horseclans' series. They are fairly lightweight reading and a bit cheesy but enjoyable all the same.
John Jakes' "Brak the Barbarian". I've got those old Weird Tales.Belonged to me sire. I felt the Kane film left "a bit" to be desired.'Course that's usual in films from books/short stories. That's who was my first thought,Smith was probably the best of all the Weird Tales guys.Mayhap as he had a background as a poet. Be warned Dp-much charnel house & necromancy, esp in the Zothique stories. Lin Carter did also, he and deCamp even worked together on some Conan stories.Odd,but as well as he could write/finish Howard's (and other's) stories I never really cared much for Carter's own stuff. deCamp's "Dragon of the Ishtar Gate" is a good 'un. I'll second that-tho' those tales are crazier than most of Howard's. maybe they only read pulp stuff and were unacquainted w/ heavy literature?
Yes for Solomon kane, (and all the short stories) but not since it was originally released, I enjoyed it too! Ill have a look for sullivan, Thanks!
Watching it, I thought it'd work way better as a standalone film than an adaptation of Solomon Kane stories. It's a fun movie though. The thing that actually felt the most "Howard" about the film to me was the opening, with Kane leading a pirate crew on a raid.
One of my favourite reads of all time is the Conan story "Beyond the black river". Everything great about Conan.
Well damn...just listening to an audio book of "Beyond the black river" and the reader pronounces "Cimmerian" like "Simmer-ian"...I've always said "Sim-air-ian". What say you Howardites?
