As the American Election media circus cycle is coming to a close, I have started to wonder what sort of VP will Mike pence become, theres been little about him In the MSM beyond his apparent anti science, anti gay, anti sex education, and general anti liberal views.

So since there are trump/pence voters on here, I'd like to ask you, why you think he will make a good VP, and which of his views do you agree or disagree with, and which ones are you willing to ignore?

Thanks aaradia, Is there anything that he is for, that you think excuses his LGBT views? or do that excuse only work for those who arnt LGBT and have no contact with anyone who is LGBT?

    The latter.

People making excuses and pretending Trump/ Pence isn't against the rights of GLBT people is an extremely ill informed opinion IMO. Ignoring obvious clearly stated repeated statements by both people. The denial astounds me. It isn't like Pence has made a secret of his stance on this issue. It is clearly out there for anyone to quickly google.

There is no excuse for any type of bigotry IMO. None.

I used to be an activist in the GLBT community in my youth. When, (sadly I think when- not if)the anti-GLBT attempts start, I think I may have to dust off my old activist boots again.

I feel like there is a target on me like I haven't felt since my early 20's. When a bunch of skinheads were beating and killing GLBT people her in San Diego.

Pence is even worse than Trump with his track record on GLBT rights. But Trump picked Pence for his V.P. That speaks volumes to me.

I don't mean to sidetrack you, but at the risk of sidetracking you (with apologies) I want to shine light on a misunderstanding that I have perceived very widely -- pretty much everywhere, in fact. And that is: most people who voted for Trump didn't vote FOR Trump. They voted AGAINST Clinton. I'm not saying that's everyone, no. But I'm asserting that a very significant percentage of Trump votes were not for him but were against her.

So, your question is really targeted at only a portion of the 25% of the voting population that voted for Trump.

    Just so you know.

Okay, carry on. Sorry for sidetracking you. :)

Respectfully, perhaps that is best discussed on the Trump thread? Regardless of the reasons, the GLBT community now has to deal with a very homophobic V.P. That people were so willing to accept this for whatever reason is profoundly disturbing to me.

Let's shine a light on Pence here. He is actually just as scary as Trump to me.

Agreed. I will be surprised if more than a three Trump voters can say what they like about our new Vice Pres -- but maybe I'll be (happily) proven wrong about that.

I will listen. but it is honestly deeply disturbing that supporters turn a blind eye to their wanting to take away my rights as a human being in this world. Don't expect me and other GLBT people to be passive on this.

Making excuses for the type of bigotry that Pence clearly spouts to the GLBT community is not going to go unchallenged. I will do it politely, but I won't let it pass unchallenged.

It isn't theory for me. It is my life. Literally, my rights being threatened. And the rights of my sister and her family. Amongst others. It is personal.

(???) I didn't say a single word about Pence, let alone toot a horn for him! Please don't yell at me!

Not yelling. Not singling you out at all. Just responding in general to your post and this thread. Anyone speaking up in defense of Pence here is not going to be allowed to gloss over his GLBT stance without me speaking up. I will, as always, talk about it respectfully.

PEOPLE, need to realize that Trump did not pick Pence due to his GLBT stance. He picked him to attract the more conservative voters, which is not a small amount of people in the US. It was a smart political maneuver, far more then it was a anti gay one. I still stand by that Trump is the most gay friendly republican we have ever had. I know Mike Pence is anti gay, but other then not supporting outright giving the word "Marriage" to gays, I have not seen anything I consider out right LGBT hatred from Trump. He did say he was in favor of a strong Domestic partnership law. Though I don't see any difference between Domestic partnership and the word "Marriage".

So in the end, Pence was not picked largely for his anti gay stance. He was a choice by a republican candidate that was not a conservative, to reel in conservatives. I personally was and still am a Cruzer, as I still harbor doubts of Trumps promises, and he is not a conservative.

Now anti science, I assume that is liberal code language for Climate change? I think Pence like me and many others are against climate change for a few big reasons.. It is a big socialist redistribution scheme. 2. The climate has been changing since this planet had a climate, and it is egotistical to think we humans can affect it. It changed before us, and it will change after us. Why demonize carbon when every green photosynthesizing thing uses carbon as part of its process..

    3. If radical Climate change agenda was uniformly greenlighted with out restraint, third world nations would be intentionally held back. They cant be, and wont be allowed to develop into first world nations. 4. It just reeks of a few elite people just wanting a way to control every aspect of human life. A reason to take away even more personal freedom.

5, most on my side think it is a hoax, after the Climate gate scandal revealed the scientists were FAKING data..

Look, you want to bring people like me over to the climate side of things, then you need to remove any and all Marxist ideology from it.

Get rid of influential people on your side who suggest policy they know will keep 3rd and second world nations from developing. Drop the redistributionist, and anti personal freedom nonsense and you will have me and many other conservatives on your side. Especially now, as I am getting more inclined to think something is going on as it is 15+ degrees warmer here right now then it should be. It should be annoyingly cold, and snow starting to trickle in. I find my self more inclined to think there is something going on, though I wont support any law or program that hurts the economy.

Thanks for making my point about homophobia and Trump/ Pence supporters.

Don't even need to say more in response. This speaks volumes.

I think kframe has just hit the nail on the head of why people voted for pence/trump.

But what can be done to increase educational standards to stop this, I dont think ben carson being in charge is going to help.

I didn't vote for Pence, I voted for Trump. AS that was the only valid option. Why waste a vote on a third party, when voting for either of the third parties is essentially a vote for either of the two mains. Voting for Hilary is out, as i am not a democrat or a socialist.

Now look, due to personal reason's i find myself becoming, ever so slightly and gradually, becoming more sympathetic to the LGBT cause. Do i understand the biology of being gay or trans? No i don't. So i have been doing as much reading on the Gay and trans issues as i can. Especially trans as that is a hot button issue. I feel for those people truly.. Such torment and fear many of them feel.

Do i support Pence on everything, No. I wish the republicans would find a way to include the Gay community and get this issue off our plates. Problem is, how do you reach out to the gay community with out sacrificing your conservative values? Answer that question and you will win over a lot of Conservatives to your causes. Personally, i think part of the answer is to abolish all marriage and make it a simple private contract between two individuals. Get rid of all this government involvement, tell the states to **** off, and let people make contracts among themselves as they see fit.

Looking back at the traditional marriage thing, i don't like how it looks like a exchange of goods between father and husband. So getting rid of government involvement would mean people are free to make their own more equal marriage tradition. Make it part of the contract that the spouse has right to go to hospital/er and help make decisions regarding health if the other is incapacitated. Essentially, everything the law says is marriage, should be covered by the contract. GET THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF IT.

Now that said, stop forcing bakers to make cakes for people they don't want to make cakes for. LGBT made a big stink and ruined a nice couples life due to a cake.. YET, what will the LGBT community do when a Islamic business tells them no, and to get out and they wont serve them? Will you attack them as hard and as vehemently as you did the Christian business that denied you? Will you sue them and drive them out of business? If not then your community is hypocritical.

Ok, maybe I will say more. Trump specifically made a point to reach out to the right, which has a horrible history on GLBT issues. That he specifically picked a person with a particularly bad track record on GLBT issues is not my mistake.

Trump went to rallies to attract voters from particularly anti-GLBT people. He picked a VP with a particularly strong anti-GLBT stance. He has promised legislation to roll back the rights we have achieved.

On the other side, you have him waving a GLBT flag and insisting GLBT people love him with no substance to back that up.

You have nothing to back up claims of Trump being pro-GLBT. Please- go ahead and post evidence of him being pro-GLBT. But do so on the Trump thread. We are talking about Pence here.

To stick your head in the sand about Pence and his stances on GLBT people when the evidence in his own words completely contradicts you is profoundly ignoring facts.

But you have separated the GLBT comunity as "you and your people" so what else could I expect?

Meant no insult or disrespect. How is that turn of phrase homophobic? Is the LGBT community not your people? You are a LGBT yes? Then how is that not your people? I am a conservative, they are my people. Hell you can use the same exact turn of phrase to address me.

Stop seeing insults behind every bush..

    It's certainly insulting.

You could and perhaps have said you and others in the LGBT community.

Did you ignore the fact that Trump picked Pence as the sugar to attract Conservatives? That was the single biggest factor in his choosing him. It had nothing to do with his Anti LGBT stance, it was a smart move on his part. He needed to get the conservative vote, he would not gotten it with out doing something to reach to them.

Yes he did reach out to the right. Why wouldn't he as a REPUBLICAN candidate? It would be suicide to be a Rep and then try to run your candidacy as a Democrat trying to get their votes. This line of reasoning from you makes no sense. The Dems didn't reach out to the right, and the Republicans are the party of the right so it makes sense he will go after them. Not sure what else you expect. Maybe make it illegal for right wing conservatives to vote?

I do have at least one article of Trump saying he supports strong domestic partnership laws. Why you keep ignoring that is beyond me. Compared to many of the Rep candidates he is the strongest on LGBT issues.

That said, i do agree that Republicans should do more to get the LGBT voter community. But Aaradia how does my side do that with out violating our conservative values?

And regarding the rallies you mention, as we have butted heads before on this issue, as the Rep candidate, he is obligated to go to these IF HE WANTS TO GET AS MANY VOTES AS POSSIBLE. What part of politics and running for office don't you understand. You gotta do what you gotta do.

I know Pence is anti gay, i didn't vote for pence, i voted for Trump. How stupid would it be to not vote for my parties candidate due to his VP? VP has no power anyways.. That would force me to vote Clinton and Sorry NOPE.

Bigots aren't nice people IMO. That couple raised far more money than they lost on some gofundme type thing. Half a million dollars. They are doing just fine. They profited from the whole thing.

Please cite your reference for an Islamic business refusing service and the GLBT community standing silent. You are just making things up.

I believe in the founding Fathers principle of separation of Church and State. Personal religious beliefs should not dictate whom anyone serves. Personal bigoted beliefs of any kind do not belong in any business. You run a business, you don't get to discriminate based on Race, Gender, Age, Religion, Sexual Identity, etc.

    Period.

The precedent of people deciding who to serve based on personal belief is Anti-American.

The right is using religion to disguise bigotry. It is nothing new. Using religion to justify bigotry and atrocities has a long history in humanity.
