Pretty sure i read it on this forum previously but it applies here: "The only Person I'm trying to beat is myself, yesterday"
When I started Aikido I was coming from around ten years of doing Karate and couldn't think of going in circles rather than straight lines. Then I learnt one technique (an Irimi Nage) that made some of the basic movements click and broke down one barrier. A few months or so later I learnt another technique (a Tenchi Nage) that made the last click click. Instead of thinking "remember the movement, Anth," it was "ahhhhh, THAT feels better than the Irimi Nage." I still practice the movements in my own warmup before the Karate that I've gone back to because they've made half of my techniques there click after 13 years. So it's not just "how long" but "how many" clicks and "aha!" moments.
...and I thought I had a dirty mind! Never would I have put those two together, thanks.. I guess.. lol
