I am making up a tkd folder (another thing to keep me occupied while I can't train so much. I was going to do a FAQ patterns section. Which is basically if someones not sure they can look up there pattern and find the correct way to do a move.

I was wondering if there are any FAQ's instructors get asked a lot about in patterns. Just so I can make it accurate and helpful as I can.

    cheers

Which patterns ... Taegeuk, Pal-gwe or Chang Hon? Or all 3?

I see you're ITF so I am assuming you are requesting FAQ's for ITF forms and most specifically these forms are to be performed in accordance with the ITF.

Some schools, (such as mine) are not associated with ITF and do the Chang Hon patterns and so there may be discrepancies as to how we perform compared to other schools

  6. It's to block an attack coming from above and from the front at the same time!

    I think it's a really good idea :)

I always ask what the purpose of a new move is, and say for a block- Which part of the body am I blocking with on this? How else can this be used? etc.

When learning a pattern I always ask about a good way to remember it too! If there are any tips or tricks to learning the sequence of moves... :D

Here are color belt tuls with pictures and name of each movement. And without pictures and in english several black belt forms.. School doesn't exist anymore and our sabum was jailed so perhaps you can ignore copyrights..

When I assist in classes common things I have to correct people on are to do with height of techniques:

    - All punches in Dan Gun are high section
    - Outer forearm blocks in Do San are high section
    - Front snap kicks in Won Hyo are mid section
    - Front snap kicks in Yul Gok are low section
    - Inner forearm blocks that go the angle after the second sitting stance double punches are high section
    - Punches in Joong Gun after backfist & release to the side are high section
    - Snap kick to front in Toi Gye is mid section
    - Snap kicks to back in Toi Gye are low section

The other thing students often get confused on are which stance changes require the back foot to move up or the front foot to move back.

A back foot up example is: Do San - the back foot comes up to the middle then goes back out to the front to perform knifehand guarding block (movement 5).

A front foot back example is: Won Hyo - the front foot moves back to the middle so you can step to the back to do your circular blocks.

Lastly, it might be helpful to include a guide to help people work out whether techniques chamber on the inside or outside of the crossing arms. In brief, if a technique is executed with the outside of the forearm it comes from the inside of the crossing arms (e.g. knifehand, outer forearm low section block) and if a technique executes with the inner forearm it comes from the outside of the crossing arms (inner forearm mid section block, reverse knifehand block)

Maybe he was jailed for breaking copyright, it looks like he's pinched the pictures from the ITF encyclopaedia - probably the legacy CDs. :D

I don't want to boycott this very valid thread but unfortunately it's people like that that contribute to the increasing bad name of TKD and martial arts generally.

Ripping the Legacy CD's would be a truly terrible thing to do.

Back to the OP: I get tired of repeating, "stance, technique, breathing". This does not apply in every case, but stance, technique and breathing finish at the same time. So if you're doing a palmok daebi makgi in joong gun, then foot shifting + planting your foot, and then doing your palm blocks that's wrong! The block should finish at the same time as the stance!

This may of course be viewed differntly in other organisations, but it should be the case for TAGBers at least. My club are under threat of a whole club piley-on for anyone who breaks this. :D

Plus the chambers at the start of Joong gun/toi gye (apologies for spelling, one glass of wine too many): the next person I see chamber the blocks down by their waste just gets shot, no questions asked :woo: ;) :D

It's really hard to get started but once the ideas roll in and your mind starts working it's not so bad

Well, he got 4 years, 3 months, being a first timer in jail, he sits half of that. Plus he has to pay court expenses and compensation in money to victims in total about 200 000 € (~265000 USD). Rape accusation got abandoned in court, so it was about sexually abusing teenagers, which were mostly 16-17 years old, few were 15 years old. All female taekwondoists. That sentence is from sexual crimes, there were also some financial crimes, it seems he didn't pay all the taxes, but that's still under inspection.
