I don't know, Khalameet didn't have the same kind of excitement or tension for me personally. He was a great boss, but Artorias just kept me on my toes a little more. Khalameet was just too easy to keep dodging away from.

Then again, I guess if I had gone for a melee tank I'd probably be saying something different :D

I just finished "Spare Parts" on Ps3, a little PSN title.

    Nothing special, to be honest.
A platformer that was kind of fun in the first three worlds but got pretty dull in the world (too much "fighting" as in button smashing of the square button with too many enemies and no way to protect yourself. Since you can die all you want and because the game isn't difficult the slightest, it wasn't gamebreaking, but boring).

For trophy hunters it's worth a look; at least when it's on sale.

But other then that, nothing one have to play.

(Apparently it's pretty similar to Ratchet & Clank, but I never played those)

I'm about 75% way through the main Bloodborne story. If you enjoy Dark Souls you'll love Bloodborne.

Haven't ventured into the Chalice dungeons yet. It's going to be a toss up to decide whether to do that and complete the main story asap to buy Witcher or spend a ton more hours in Bloodborne.

    Hard call to make...

Bloodborne looks absolutely stunning. I would love to play it but that would mean buying a PS4 and I don't think there's enough good titles out for it yet are there?

Was gonna buy a PS4 for that very reason but the guys i speak to about it tell me it's Ninja Giaden for Dark Souls. Not tactical enough for me, beatiful style but i'm 138 hours into my first scholar of the first sin play through, i'm told i'll get about a 20 out of bloodborne. Still i may still........

On another note you can cheese Manus from outside the fog gate with a bow and some poison arrows. Also make sure to summon puppy Sif if you go toe to toe with him, he provides a good distraction for you to get the job done.

Put off trading Battlefield Hardline for something else. Finally figured out how to play it well so I'm busy trolling lots of angry Americans with a DMR and 7.0 KDR :D

I've been watching some of the game play for it and it is absolutely stunning.

Not played Ninja Gaiden though so I can't comment on the reference to that.

Awwww, you can't send puppy Sif back in after everything he's been through! :(

Completed my first play through though. Did it all without summoning anyone which I am quite proud of (again, apart from Knight Solaire against the Gargoyles just because). Realised that once you actually start to watch the movements properly the bosses were relatively straight forward to handle (still challenging though). Now started NG+.

Also been reported for "being a lag hacker noob" by somebody that invaded my world because I got the drop on him with a crystal soul spear and one-shot killed him (Dragon Ring, Tin Crystallization Catalyst, Dusk of Oolacile's ear/hat thingey that gives an extra 20% to magic, soul level about 95 and Intelligence close to 70). I either seem to win PvPs in about 5 seconds or lose in about 10. There's nothing in between.

Apart from the poor guy I invaded that hid from me for nearly 15 minutes before dying in one shot :D.

Using sorcery in PvP is quite hard though. The players are a lot faster.

    ====================

Finished Game of Thrones: Season 4. Arguably the best episode yet in my opinion. Without giving away proper spoilers, I'm terrified because in this episode it felt like I was reclaiming some ground after everything that went wrong previously.

Still thoroughly expecting everyone to die though.

I'm about 80 hours into Bloodborne, and whoever told you 20, well, I've no idea how they would finish it in 20!! I've found it very difficult (and I've completed all 3 Souls games).

Plenty of tactical gameplay; fantastic atmosphere (entire game feels like the Tower of Latria map) and the level design, the way everything is interconnected and shortcuts unlock is brilliant.

Lol yeah what you did there was make a character that totally nukes bosses and a glass cannon in PVP. Try Ricards Rapier +15 with crystal magic weapon and 2 hand R2 it for extra Nuke - took out the four kings using this method in about 4 minutes on new game +++++++ - also cast immolation for complete distruction combined with Leo Ring - it's a way to totally cheat a boss.

The guy was probably just raging you could one shot him, no one likes that. I specialize in Havel Beasts, love killing them - i got one shot the other day from one carrying dual smelters. I wasn't happy, he could barely walk and just smashed me. Was for my last dragon scale for 30 ppv victories in Dragon covenant.

20 was just a throw away number as in "it's abuot 20 hours" - a good Dark Souls player i'm told can hit the 20 and under mark. Here is the howlongtobeat rating http://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=21262

Also heres the 44 minute run i'm sure you heard about

    http://www.polygon.com/2015/3/30/8316857/bloodborne-speed-run

I'l probably end up buying a PS4 and getting it but at the minute it doesn't represent the same value and challenge as Dark Souls, i'm a fanboy of anything Miyazaki makes so yeah.

I really hate videos like that :) Seriously, how to exploit glitches and stuff to ruin an amazing game. Don't let it put you off. Like I said, I'm 80+ hours in and haven't even touched the chalice dungeons.

I know what you mean but I like the idea it was highlighted. Form’s quality control has always been shady and gamers constantly exploit the issues on release. Dark Souls and Dark souls 2 have gone through an incredible amount of patching to fix problems found by gamers.

They have always had problems with frame rate as well, I hear bloodbornes can’t maintain 30FPS and who could forget the notoriously sub 10FPS of blight town in Dark Souls as well as struggling to hold 60 FPS on xbox one and PS4 for DS2.

Quality control does seem to be an issue with from. Not to mention to ridiculous hitboxes and sub-par netcode. How they manage to send out incredible games with such technical problems is a feat in itself lol.

Played just over an hour of Dark Souls so far and taking a break to focus on something else. So far I'm positive about it though. Already got very angry at the Asylum Demon so that was depressing seeing as its the first boss :p

I was unsure how I'd handle the fact its a hard game, but I'm finding it surprisingly addicting. Yes its hard, and I haven't played anything like it, but so far nothing has felt cheap. I've played games that were "hard" before and that mostly relied on cheating AI to even the playing field. Dark Souls feels like it has well established rules and yes its hard, but its hard because of timing and strategy needed by the player, not because of some coding tomfoolery.

So I like it the tiny amount I've played.

Ha, he's a real troll. Intentionally overpowered for your first encounter and you're not supposed to beat him yet (though if you somehow can you'll receive a special weapon). Anyway instead of fighting him there's a side door from the arena you can run through to the rest of the game; but you'll have reason to revisit the Asylum Demon later when you've leveled up a bit :)

Just started to replay through Shenmue about 15 years after I completed it last on the Dreamcast. Such a great game, still hoping for part 3!

Yup, it's kind of fun in a strange way. Nuking the bosses is boring (it'll stop happening as I go to NG+++ and what-not) but PvP is rather exciting, especially if they summon a phantom to help them. Seeing what tactics people employ to get one up on you is a lot of fun. If it's in an open area with no cover then I've got a really strong chance of winning, but if there is cover around and they know what they're doing (a few have done thus far) then it makes it highly entertaining.

I saw a video of that and I died inside. I know I've got a bit of a glass cannon thing going on that can hit surprisingly hard but that was just going too far for me personally.

Yeah, I don't blame him to be fair. It is a bit of a douchey thing to do but if these folks want to try and invade as I'm on my way to a boss fight, I hold no sympathy for them - especially for the snot bags that invade in Blighttown and in the Catacombs just before Nito!

They are strangely fun, aren't they?

I think my favourites are the guys with little armour, fast weapons and pyromancy/enchanted weapons. They have the speed that makes it hard to hit them and can rack up lots of light hits very quickly against me, usually which involve bleeding. I have fairly good bleed defence because of it but it's exciting all the same. Havel tanks are absolute beasts but they're usually so slow that I don't even need to be close to them.

    Ouch, that stings!

    You have my condolences.

    Good man :D

The Asylum demon isn't too bad actually. The hard part is learning what certain movements mean and when to move accordingly as well as what distances to be, but once you've got that part down beating the boss without taking a single hit is entirely possible.

What class did you pick to start with? Light or heavy armour? What weapon?

Also, when you first enter the room (you've probably figured this out but I didn't the first time I played it so I'm saying it anyway!) you can plunge attack the boss. Just drop and hit the basic attack button/key as you're plummeting. Should rack up a few hundred damage in one go, makes the fight much easier.

Dark Souls is a very good game for the reason you mentioned though. Nothing feels cheap. Except maybe one of the bosses later on called Pinwheel. He was cheap.

But yes, the game makes you work at it for literally everything. It's really refreshing.

Also, because it makes me smile, www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoQxzgr9kb4 :D.

I have a warrior as my main and I started another one with theeeeee beserker maybe? Axe dude. Seems two handing an axe and pummelling things before they can hit me is better than relying on my non-existent skill in proper melee.

I am starting to hit a grind though now I'm out of the initial dungeon. Like if I die because I got mobbed then fair enough, but I don't really have the patience to go through fighting the same 20 skeletons for another quarter of an hour to get back to where I was

  18. LemonSloth

    LemonSloth Laugh and grow fat!

    Like most folks do?

I can't complain. My current character just spams spells until things die. :D

Two handing big weapons is good though. Reduces the strength requirement to wield bigger weapons and do more damage.

    Achievement Unlocked = 25G
    This Is Dark Souls

Yeah, one of three things will happen.

    1) You'll learn to love soul farming. You'll level up lots in a short space of time, with your new stats & confidence you can breeze through most areas.
    2) You'll learn to speed run the crap out of certain parts of the game.
    3) You'll die inside and never touch the game again :p

If it helps, as long as you've restored your humanity, you can actually summon other players to help you out against bosses.

To be honest I love nuking bosses, they’ve nuked me so so many times. There is only one boss that I cheese every time and that’s the “ceaseless discharge” (stupid name) – it’s such a boring fight. I like PVP though, used to hate it but I win as much as I lose and once you start accepting that dying is what you will do over and over again you can live with defeat.

Don’t die inside, you either stick to the meta SL150 or you go beyond – if you go beyond and build the hardest hitting character you can then you have made a choice to test the limit of the game. No matter how strong your character is when you hit new game +7 the normal undead can wipe you out in 2 hits. Bosses will one shot you. Remember if you make a boss hunter this character most likely won’t be your main character, it does no harm to test the limits of the game. This game is a little different from others though you can’t break it no mater your soul level.

It’s not a douche thing to do, if he can’t dodge then thats his problem. Mages are notoriously easy to wipe out in PVP so the guy couldn’t do the job. You had the handicap in this scenario not him. When you get invaded before the boss gate in Anor Lando and all the knights are still alive you have a real problem lol. Never been invaded in the catacombs but that could destroy your souls, it’s such a tough area.

This was one of my PVP fights

    http://www.xboxdvr.com/gamer/Hassien/video/2672191

Yeah, they’re usually one shot specialists that cos play as Havel complete with dragon tooth. They’re generally easy to handle but recklessness is the real enemy when you face them. They also have massive resistances. Actually besides the one I got smashed off the other day I haven’t seen to many Havel monster/beasts cutting about.

Outstanding game, racing fork lift trucks on the docks in Aberdeen was always a good laugh. Really wish this game was finished. The frist two are classics!!

Ceaseless discharge is just an incredibly lazy boss all round. The name, the concept, the imagery...quite possibly the worst boss in the game (even including Pinwheel). I end up feeling thoroughly depressed every time I know I have to take him out. Even the lore behind him isn't that interesting.

I'll probably change my opinion about nuking bosses later in the game, but right now I'm enjoying the challenge. Walking in and taking a boss out in 3/4 hits is OK but I actually like to feel like I've worked at it rather than just steam rolled them.

One-shotting players in PvP on the other hand is a lot of fun. I could just be saying that because I got back-stabbed by a flaming halberd from a guy who used about five humanity to survive. I hate fighting in Anor Londo.

Ok, that's cool. I'll do that then. Found a way to stack my sorcery to go full glass cannon mode:

    Tin Crystalization Catalyst
    Dusk of Oolacile
    Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring
Red Tearstone Ring (the one that improves attack power on low health)
Power of One pyromancy thing (the pyromancy that jacks your attack power).

Walk in with about 15% health.

It's disturbing how much damage you can do with that set up.

Speaking of which, I have to ask something that's been bugging me. In the intro, it talks about Gwyn being the Lord of Sunlight, Nito being the first of the Dead, the Witches of Izalith and "the furtive pigmy". Now I know Seath isn't the pigmy, so the only other boss I can think of that would fit would be Manus. Is he the furtive pigmy that is forgotten about, the one mentioned in the intro video?

Fair point. I always feel slightly guilty one-shotting people when they've just turned up because I like actually feeling like it's a challenge. That said, almost everyone else one-shots me when they eventually catch me, so I guess it's fair :p

It's happened every single time I've tried to run to face Nito. Once it happened in the stupidly dark area where you can't see properly with all the giant skeletons. That was entertaining. I was utterly crushed, but it was damned exciting for all of the 2 minutes I lasted :p

The rest of the time it's down where you find all the mini pinwheels and the ridiculously narrow pathways where there is no room to roll backwards. Won every time down there though.

Kicking people off ledges never stops getting old :D

    Nice :D

That backstab with the lag against you was awful though.

Wait - did you just beat him with dual caestus?

How well do they work in PvE?

Yeah, they don't seem so popular lately. Strange. Maybe people are realising the meta game is evolving a little?
