How do the five directions fit in with your peng Jin? I was thinking the other day that your should be able to move in any direction with your technique. Ie keep centre, balance, root and stick or not with what is required? Thanks Paul Tennet www.moifa.co.uk
Are you talking about the 13 postures 1. Peng 2. Lu 3. Ji 4. An 5. Tsai 6. Lieh 7. Zhou 8. Kao 9. Jin 10. Tui 11. Ku 12. Pan 13. Ding Because if you are Peng Jin is forward
To my mind, Peng-jin is an inflated quality that enforces the structure from the inside, preventing it from collapsing. As such, it expands in every direction. What most taijiquan practitioners refer to as Peng (ward off), I was actually taught as 'Bing', which is to lift and cover. How do the five directions fit in with the 8 Jin? As a general rule, I don't like to define the Jin as 'this' direction or 'that' direction.
