Remind me again what Aikido stands for? Chick was being harassed. Aikido guy sorted it out. I don't see the problem. Well other than people don't stand around waiting to hit you. But it was a cool video as these things go. And as a plus point the Aikido guy wasn't invulnerable. Well I guess that's what he gets for standing around like a numpty. And some of those ukemi had to hurt.
Going to post some vids from Tomiki/Shodokan soon showing Aikido competition. I know some folks don't like 'em but I think it offers a different perspective on Aikido. As a taster here is an old teacher of mine getting a few ippons in a comp: http://youtu.be/LU47_TNU288 http://youtu.be/LU47_TNU288
Rather than post them all individually I will just direct you to the Youtube Channel of Core Aikido in Israel who have been uploading lots of old videos of the Yoshinkan Hombu Dojo from the early 90's https://www.youtube.com/user/CoreAikidoIsrael/videos Tons of good stuff there including early dan tests of now well-known instructors such as Robert Mustard
Here's one that I liked [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tv7BTKQzn50"]Aikido: OKAMOTO Yoko Sensei - Seminar in Offenbach 2014 - YouTube[/ame] just a bit unusual
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3YqcGhZYkA"]REAL AIKIDO "Demonstration in Belgrade" (ONE OF THE BEST) - Fariz Abdullayev *** - YouTube[/ame] Nice stuff ....kicks too..
Great Nat Geo episode on Aikido. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nsrS0bsRW8"]Aikido National Geographic - YouTube[/ame]
I remember this. It was shockingly bad. Just listen to the narration. "The Aikidoist can never attack ...". Absolute rubbish that betrays a total lack of knowledge and understanding of the subject matter.
aikiwolfie, i found the full doc for the discovery channel and it was pretty good but I couldn't believe that one was only 30 minutes long. How can anyone possibly attempt to describe a martial art of give you a feel for something in less then 30 minutes?
This man is such a pleasure to watch. Like poetry in motion. Some folks have called him the best Aikido Master that isn't Japanese. Regardless, he seems humble and very knowledgeable. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulmZRoASiTk"]Aikido: Christian Tissier - Belgium 2013 - YouTube[/ame]
And yet, that is what they tried to do. I'm pretty sure I've seen the full length version also. They did a whole series on different styles I think. I wasn't impressed. You'd almost be better off subscribing to Choson Ninja on YouTube.
This a DR video. But the shihonage is near identical to what I was taught. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrcJgYKDJUw"]大æ±æµåˆæ°—柔術 DaitÅ-ryÅ« Aiki-jÅ«jutsu - ShihÅnage with a Sword - YouTube[/ame]
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tv7BTKQzn50"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tv7BTKQzn50[/ame] Her sinking is so clear and precise that I can feel it in my body just watching her. Downward vortex -- I love it.
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugsS2_Z0wpA"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugsS2_Z0wpA[/ame] Approx. 7:00 -- 8:15 has something that I don't see in enough aikido demos: chain attacks. Instead of the typical 1 attack, 1 defense, he takes a kick-punch-punch attack, and then lands his defense. Nice. I'd like to see that more often.
I love watching Tissier. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXx6KW4bOFI"]Christian Tissier at World Combat Games 2013 - YouTube[/ame]
