One of my favorite childhood fairy tales gets the Hollywood treatment. Hansel and Gretel are now adults who hunt and kill witches. Interesting premise. There are some things I like and some I don't like about this film. Hansel looks much older than Gretel, even though they are supposed to be twins, or at least close age siblings. Also Gretel ending up as the damsel in distress who needs to be rescued is kinda clichéd. There are good performances, especially by Famke Jansen as the evil dark witch. You can tell she relishes the role. Spoiler Also there is a clever plot twist when Hansel and Gretel discover their mother was a powerful white witch burned by witch hunters and the dark witch they now face was behind it. The dark witch now needs Gretels heart for the blood moon ceremony. Overall, I recommend it. It is a decent fantasy.
So worth the $20 for theatre or wait to see it at home? Also, you should use the spoiler thing when giving away plot twists.
At least you've made the effort to start a thread, make a recommendation and get a discussion going. Hope you don't mind me adding spoilers. Did you rent this movie, or see it at the cinema?
Interesting trailer. It seems to be a film made up of ideas from other movies. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1428538/ That said it looks like a film worth seeing when it comes out on DVD.
There was a Hansel and Gretel that came out last fall/winter. I thought it was this one and grabbed it at the video store. Be warned, it sucked.

I know some of you guys will go see it just to see Gemma Arterton in leather. You won't be disappointed guys. Those tight leather pants show off her butt real good.
Beeing a norwegian patriot, I'll have to see the movie if only because the Director is a norwegian (that have made some interresting splatter-turky-movies in Norway, before for some strange reason beeing picked up by Hollywood Here are some youtube-clips of other movies he have made: Dead snow (nazi-zombies in Norway) [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTNc9V5ABCk"]Død Snø (Dead Snow) - Big Fight Scene - YouTube[/ame] Kill Buljo (sami parody of kill-bill) [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGuXf2W0T9k"]Kill Buljo Trailer - YouTube[/ame]
Dead Snow is a proper love/hate movie. I enjoyed it but it was terrible. Didnt realise it was same Director. Hansel and Gretel was supposed to come out sometime last year but got pushed back.
