Some big numbers put up this year
Blaine Sumner the first man in ipf history to squat 500kg

Bonica Lough became the first woman to squat 600 pounds raw https://www.instagram.com/p/BCiNsLbCZTd/

Jerry pritchett became the first american to deadlift over 1000 pounds

Then brian shaw went and beat eddie halls record in the deadlift

Just for hall to then retake the deadlift record with 465kg

And then this man went and won the Arnold's strongman title for the 8th time, cementing his place as the strongest man of out time

I saw Eddie Hall became the first man to deadlift 1000kg twice in 1 hour.

    Did he keep that record?

He did, Shaw looked so easy at 463kg and could have done more , but they only got 3 lifts and i think he was being calculatd for the rest of the comp

Eddie struggled to lock 465kg but got it but then if you decide your opener is going to be 460kg on a bar you have never tried you are going to struggle lol

Shaw injured his hamstring and Eddie had to pull out with a tricep injury, worlds strongest man is only a few weeks away as well apparently

The Eddie Strongman documentary was awesome, featured the build up to that WR breaking deadlift.

i think the strongman organisers are hanging their hats on eddie and the deadlift as a way to break into mainstream strength sports and into the public eye more, people can relate to this more than they can to stone lifting, or tyre flipping

Even though powerlifters will point out its not a proper lift and would never pass in any competition anywhere :)

Eddie got more coverage in the newspapers for this than any of the winners of WSM have in the past decade, And now he is the face of the sport, even though he hasnt won a single major competition as far as my memory serves

So they are pushing it big time, europes strongest man now starts with the world deadlift championships, the traditional tyre deadlift at the arnolds has been replaced with this standard bar lift and so on

Of course the problem becomes when they get so injured from doing the deadlift they cant carry on for the rest of the comp, eddie pulled out of europe's this year due to wrecking himself in the deadlift at the start, shaw injured himself here, the only guy to take it slow and steady was Big Z, and he went on to win the whole thing

Not to mention it over ran so they had one event on the saturday the deadlift, and four on the sunday.... two pressing and two huge carrying events ...great planning!
