Duran Duran - Duran Duran(The Wedding Album)
Kind of a comeback album for these guys in the mid 90's. Saw them live on this tour, Good show. Too much Information, Ordinary World, Come Undone.

    The Eagles - Greatest Hits
The early classics. To be honest I don't care for much of what they did after this album. Take it Easy, Take it to the Limit, Best of my Love.

    Yes, they did, indeed.

Another - this is one of my favourites - from a likeminded band The Last Resort

Now this band also falls in the much maligned branch of punk - I call "Hey" as in "Hey, you!" which is my own term - thank you, thank you :bow1: - as seeing the West Ham, Isle of Dogs and so forth, word in written form makes me think of F-F-F-French...(there, I managed to get it out - [IMG]) ...which I don't care for ( no offense Van Zandt ) that came as

Punk began to fill up with too many arty-smarty types and it war gettin' to the point where you couldna tell punk from pomp.

Hence, just as rock split off into various factions - punk being one, when things became just too silly, Punk split into factions as well, with Hey, you! being one of the splinter groups.

No, no facism, no racist there - that came later and was contrived by forces that...well, that's a rant for another thread...

Anyroads...enjoy! (BTW, this particular number was a favourite in the dance halls in certain sections of Ulster as it was sure to have things rollin when it were boring. :D

I listen to a lot of O..."Hey you!" stuff. Don't usually mention it to people not in the know as they always think....well, you know. And you can't explain to them. There's a lot of good Oi! these days and a lot of the bands are really making the effort to clean up the image and seperate themselves from the "other lot"....still a lot of problems though.

I actually sang in an Oi! band for a while - we were great if I may say so myself. Hah.

But you started it...so...you put me in the Oi! mode* with that Angelic Upstarts song and I ended up listening to a bunch last night; 4 Skins, Hard Skin, Last Resort (coincidentally) etc.

One of my favourite contemporary bands of the sub-genre.

Gotta love the lyrics in this song. Tongue in cheek? Naaah!

"Wake up in the morning, have me ready brek
Drink me cup of Bovril and wring my mothers neck" - Genius!!! :)

    [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6--zzTHo7M"]The Last Resort-"Violence In Our Minds" - YouTube[/ame]

And one of the best ever.

Sweden puts out a lot of good Oi! Perkele "Goteburg", Agent Bulldog "Stockholm Skins" are all great, Swedish lyrics though.

Hard Skin are a great joke Oi! band. I am not sure what their aim is, but basically they're mocking some of the mentality and what not of the bands....but they're actually just damn good.

You know the old "ACAB"....they do "ACAC" :)

There songs are full of swears...so check 'em yoursen on YouTube.

Arrgh..arrgh..arrgh..arrgh! ( <---think Popeye when you hear that ) You stole The Foreskins ([IMG]) from me. I was gonna put that on next.

One thing you have on me is you know all the contemporary bands - 'ell, I'd forgotten most of the old-country one's till I came on here.

The Wretched One's - where they from?!? Sounds like a New Zealander with Yank backing singers, lol. Maybe he's from Norway.

I don't know my contemps but I can usually tell 'em from the old-country bands - the contemporary bands are usually much better musicians. Not only can they play their instruments, their musical timing syncs - not always the case with the Originals!

For instance, if you listen to "The Red, White and Blue" they've a crackin' drummer but the guitarist canna keep up - you'n hear it halfway through the song, lol. They're outta synch several times. Most sounded like that live, as I recall. I always used to think that the studio hacks creatively "arranged" most punk bands studio albums cause the times I managed to hear 'em live  .... Elvis Costello and the Attractions were a notable exception. On the other hand, as far as musical timing issues went, nothing could compare to seeing J.Page puke his almighty guts out in front of 70,000 from the 3rd row.

That's something I'd to get used to back in the day, being a Thin Lizzy fan and all, but it's was also one of the endearing things about the genre, when it warn't contrived.

I didn't throw you with my self-moniker-ed Hey label. Very, very good, Bozza. I am impressed. :star::star::star::star::star:

    ===

They're listed in the Punk/Hey category, but when they were playing back in the day, everyone just thought of 'em as a harder version of the Small Faces. Lot of their stuff reminded me of "Lazy Sunday".

Was this Dan Hardy's ( the UFC fighter ) walk out song? lol!

The Wretched Ones. New Jersey. Proper blue collar punk/Hiya! I love 'em...Simple straight forward punk rock 'n' roll, with a splash of humour.

Yeah, the new uns stand out like a sore thumb compared to some of the old stuff. It's not just the production, but the "quality" and ability is better. A lot of the new stuff has it's own style too...it sounds a little diffferent. Bands like Last Resort were great but could hardly play, but isn't that the point and half the fun? And the Rejects will always be my bestest band of old school trouble makers (wearing the shirt as I type).

But a lot of the modern Oi! stuff is very contrived and cliched; Endless songs about being Oi!, drinking, being with your mates, remembering your roots...blah, blah, blah. I wouldn't even add any bands here 'cause a lot of it is so damn cheesey I'd be too ashamed. You can see it in the image too; nothing but Fred Perrys, Ben Shermans, DMs and high quality ink...

I saw Sparrer earlier this year. they're great but really just the Chas 'n' Dave of street punk. :D My mate said it was maybe like seeing Staus Quo. I agree, even though they were one of the first, they're really just a Moddish / pub rock band....not that that isn't a good thing.

Where and when was that when Page threw up? I bet people bottled it and sold it on ebay already. I have been to so few big gigs in my time. I think the biggest bands I have seen are AC/DC, Anthrax...Motorhead.

I think a post has vanished!

Listening to a lot of stuff off No Front Teeth records out of London. Solid label putting out old sounding punk and hardcore and ran by a fantastic bloke who cut me a deal on my latest order! Seems to be a ton of bands coming out of London playing this stuff.

Eh, I don't know. Couple of hours in and it seems to be getting slowly more exciting, but I'm finding it really hard to get into. Survival horror isn't my thing I guess.
