I love that Amen Break video. Found it a few years back and was horrified at how the Winston's have been diddled out of any royalties for it and those muppets that chopped up the sounds and then tried to copyright them! Anyway...I've been listening to this a lot. A cover that really knocks it out the park. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk7RVw3I8eg"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk7RVw3I8eg[/ame]
That was interesting, but I can't agree with his conclusions about intellectual property. I mean, are we really missing out culturally because no-one is allowed to sample Brittany Spears? Sure, the Amen break was a phenomenon, but what about all the beats that used royalty-free samples, or drum synthesizers? When recordings are sampled without permission, it is the artists who lose out. The erosion of intellectual property rights is the battle between big tech firms like Google and musicians and engineers. In the end, all "content" (I hate that word) is just filler to drive advertising. That's why the torrent sites haven't been shut down, because Google makes ad money from them. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/04/22/jaron_lanier_on_ip/
