martial arts injuries and really bad HMO plans or universal health care?

Well you all know that injuries will happen and people into martial arts just like people who do football or soccer and Judo more so can be hard on you body and you can get injuries even bad kinds!!

Getting hit very hard on the side of your knee, Overextend the knee joints, improper kicking, Jumping and twisting movements, Quickly stop moving and change direction really fast while running, landing from a jump, or turning movements all can cause ACL knee of over-stretching or tearing of the anterior cruciate ligament.

A tear may be partial or complete. Treatment is rest and some cases that are bad may need rehab or surgery.

To see a doctors and specialists cost money and under countries with universal health care can run into a lot of government bureaucracy.

1 Month or more to see specialist
2 Yes 3 to 6 month waiting list for surgery.
3 Government not wanting to do surgery unless in some cases you are a sport athletes.
5 family doctors giving you the runaround !! Yes out side his or her knowable area of study of medicine or lack of problem solving skills.

Well a rule is if you have money and in the US the doctors will do any thing ASAP to fix you up.

But people who have a really bad HMO plans or in country with universal health care with bad government bureaucracy how does this play in with martial arts?

I hear some countries people don't even run or go bike riding of fear yes fear of a fall injury!!!Yes waiting 6 months for knee or hip surgery!!!

A MMA fighter or some one missing martial arts training for year would destroy their career and training.

So how does this tie in with martial arts? Should martial arts people have special doctors that know martial arts injuries? Buy into a health care plan that covers it? If you not in the US in some of those countries is martial arts a big no? Go at your own risk.

If you need hip or knee surgery you are in for some fun times at the doctors office.Playing I have problem doctor. Doctor say what? I have a problem. What.

The health care system is not getting better but much worse.

Some of these horror stories are people with bad HMO plans or universal health care.

I'm sure Ronda Rousey could have doctor or specialist come to her house if need be and have him or her stay up all night coming up with a treatment plan!! Other people that is not the case.

I'm lightweight lost within this and looking for the questions, this is mainly a rant.

Part of the weight of the injury care lies on the gym to take care of the athlete. Personally I'm trying to become an Athletic Trainer that will specialize in MMA or martial arts as well as mainly focusing on Rugby because martial arts tournaments and other things don't really occur often enough for a stable living. Myself being Filipino, I've heard the pseudo science treatments that they have for their amateur athletes and fighters and to be completely honest, it's insanely hard to justify them as medical practices through science but they work pretty darn well.

Martial arts should have special doctors .... the only problem, do martial arts injuries happen enough to need a special doctor? No, but it doesn't hurt to have a specialist every now and then for the freak injuries. Understand your body, describe how you got injured, and if possible without hurting yourself, use a visual example on yourself. A decent and trained MD should understand what's going on, if not, somebody else should, at the very least an Athletic Trainer should.

I've always had swift and effective treatment for my fighting injuries on the NHS. GPs are somewhat variable, but hospital doctors seem to have a disproportionate number of rugby players who know what's up.

We see them too much playing in college that we can't help but become one.

@Bubble99: So, I guess you still haven't started to train in anything?

When I broke my arm the surgery was three days after.
Hardly anything else possible, because otherwise the bone would start to heal wrong.

BUT when they plate got removed, which was half a year earlier then planned, I went an saw the doctor on a Thursday or Friday - and again: The operation was was the following Tuesday.

So it's not always waiting for half a year.

And no, training martial arts it's not forbidden by my insurance. I even doubt, that they actually could forbid it.
What some insurances could do, is adding a clause and wanting more money.

I had a major knee injury In a country with universal healthcare, so I got it treated for free after waiting a few months.

I waited a few months because I could still walk and work.

Universal healthcare is much better then the US system.

Become city cop if you get injuries the police union will put major major major pressure on the doctors and government to speed things up.

    Or become a MMA fighter.

No cop or MMA fighter will allow month waiting list to see a specialist and 3 to 6 months waiting list to get surgery done than after surgery 6 months to 12 months of staying home.

Lay would laugh at this health care long wait times.

I dont mind waiting a few months, people with greater need, get treated first.

And theirs always the private option to jump the que if needed.

no the point of thread is government bureaucracy of health care.

People that get injuries can't stay home for 6 months and 12 months would destroy everything they work for just everything.

Martial arts is training and 6 month of no training is long time and 12 months you get really behind.

MMA fighters job is to fight and staying at home is not good at all.

If MMA fighter had to stay home for year or even almost two years he or she could be living in car or homeless shelter.

It like cop or firefighter that get injuries on the job that is not good it cost the union too much money to pay them to sit at home.

You seem to be creating a problem in your own mind here.

Any injury where you can't work, is serious, serious injuries get treated before less serious injuries.

    That's how triage works.
