There would be two of us travelling from Nottingham. I don't expect anyone to go too far out of their way to pick us up and take us home. We will try and make alternative arrangements and check trains etc and see what we can do.
That's not a massive journey for me, if you can get a train closer I could pick you up at a station, but if not, Nottingham is cool for me.
Yeah Ruth will be coming too. Think Adam might be bringing us but I'm waiting on confirmation. I'll let you know. Thanks guys.
Just a couple of weeks to go, so just a reminder to get your donation in via the Just Giving page , the link to which can be found in the first post. If you are bringing students or friends please make sure they too donate.
My student and friend Charli (Dan's sister) has just donated and sent a message of gratitude to you all. https://www.justgiving.com/fundrais...ontent=Simon-Sheridan2&utm_campaign=pfp-share We start at 10.00, but I'll be there shortly after 09.00 to get set up.
Sadly Unreal Combat has had an engagement land at his feet that he's unable to avoid and it's going to preventing him from coming to the MAP Meet. Keith Lebhan has emailed offering to stand in of another instructor can't make it, so I've contacted him asking if he's still available. Keith is a coach at Hammersmtih Boxing academy and is an ABAE Level 1 club coach . I'll keep you all infiomed.
My fun should start by finally finding a flight and a train route Gosh, I'm so useless I just hope to be in a state not to only seem like a complete douce, but actually being able to communicate and even talk to people. And don't totally rape the English language
As a relative newbie to this forum and therefore never having been to a MAP meet before...what should I expect on the day? I presume I should bring a gi/uniform/sensible loose clothing etc. Has the schedule for the day been finalised yet? I'm familiar with the venue as I've competed there.
From what I understand, there is a moderate amount of nudity, copious amounts of drinking, and at some point in the afternoon Simon will take on all challengers wearing nowt but a pink tutu. Oh, and there'll be a bit about punching, kicking and folding-up other people. I'm looking forward to it!
We'll all rock up between 9 and 10am, say hello and get to know each other a bit. Simon or I will subject you to a short introduction and some terrible puns/dad jokes. The first two sessions will start and people will split between them, and so we go on through the day, with a short break between each one. Wear something comfortable. Few sessions require a gi, but feel free to bring one. Otherwise we can supply some when required. There are vending machines and a bar at the centre, or bring your own food/drink. We will sell bottled water on the day, and proceeds will be added to the charity collection. Make friends. Talk to people. Learn a lot. Meet the people you talk to on MAP At the end of the day there will be a raffle of gloves, books, Simon's used tutu, and anything that anyone brings along to contribute. All proceeds will again go to charity. After that you are free to check out, but we know you now, so you can never leave The schedule is on page 1 of this post. That's as close as we can be, given that all Instructors are giving their time for free and anyone can be subject to family issues, last minute problems etc. There are any number of qualified and insured people present who will be willing to take an extra session or run something different should the need arise though. Most of all have fun! It's a seriously eclectic mix of martial artists and Instructors, with a vast amount of experience between them. Last year I watched Chadderz, an up and coming MMA fighter, sat soaking up every word from a para-Olympic judoka. I reckon that's what it's all about. Mitch
I'm sure there are people still to decide, so I'd say that the day is so much more relaxed than you may think. It's much more fun than you think and you'll definitely come away having made friends. Through MAP and the MAP Meet I have made so many friends and have socialised and trained with Mitch, Aegis, John Titchen, Mushroom, Janno and many more. Martial Arts Planet will pay for the venue, which is £390, so every penny raised will go to charity. All money raised in the raffle will also go to charity. We can accept payment on the day for the meet, but really would prefer payment via the Just Giving page, so if you bring a friend please give them the link.
Anyone who has been to a MAP Meet will probably agree that they're not the same without Smurf. Not only a fantastic coach, but the life and soul of the meet and his infectious energy from start to finish keeps us all going.
