They know already. They have been looking at how to stem the tide of training related injuries for a while now.

If its in their financial interests, they'll look into it. Now whether something is feasible or practical to undertake is another matter.

Also have to consider if the problems involved with weight cutting ( or anything else ) is something that affects their bottom line right now or if its "just" long term problems that won't show up till after the current top echelon have sold their interests in the firm is also something to consider.

Weight cutting may not present enough of an instant cause/effect for them to bother with. On the other hand, if someone dies (which they have already) and its proved to be that weight-cutting played a significant role in the death and the press get hold of it and make an issue out of it for long enough, that view, such that it exists, might change considerably.

Mushroom De-powered to come back better than before.

Zuffa has just spent a lot of money, building and making a massive UFC Centre. Designed for their fighters to use for training (for an upcoming fight) and also for rehab.

It's the next step, in hopes of preventing over training and protecting their fighters (also to keep an eye on them essentially).

Also have to remember, that although the IV ban is in place. Fighters can still ask for an exemption, which has to be OK'd by the Commission and done at a hospital.
Donald Cerrone has just been given that, citing that he has digestion issues.
However with this ban on crazy cutting, they are hoping the fighters would look to alternative ways to lose the weight (concentrating on diet) or fight at "their natural weight class".

Which then brings the discussion of having more weight classes. Some say the classes are fine as is, but at least bring a weight class between Light Heavy (205) and Heavy (265). Considering that is a 60lb difference, compared to an average of 25lb difference.

One FC announced that it has formally taken steps to overhaul fighter weigh-ins after the death of Yang Jian Bing (see post 17 of this thread) was directly attributed to complications following weight cuts.

The new program, which is the first of its kind for combat sports, is focused on athlete safety by introducing ‘walking-weight’ competition via multiple weigh-ins and tests before and during fight week, including 3 hours before an event begins,” according to the press release outlining changes that are apparently already going into effect.

    That was quick.

Unbelievably quick. Granted the promotion is quite small compared to the UFC and hasn't yet built major, multinational stars whose rankings at current weight-divisions would be threatened by following suit, it does prove; however, that in the interests of fighter safety, such moves are possible granted the will is there to make them.

Again, without public relations pressure via the press, it is highly unlikely that the UFC would mandate such changes, even if they were feasible and proved to be beneficial to the health of fighters.

Wouldn't it be safer if height was the determining factor instead of weight? I know this is probably a dumb suggestion, as it would be used if it was better.

If matches/bouts were grouped according to height divisions?

Yeh I knew it would of been used if it wasn't stupid. Just did a bit of searching on the internet.
