Oki doki. So, I've let myself go a wee bit I'm 30 years old, 5'11", and now weigh around about 17.5 Stone (245 pounds). I'm now determined to get back into some sort of shape (that isn't round). My main goal is to lose weight and improve my overall health. The main issue I need to tackle is my weakness for junk-food. At work, I tend to nip out for a Subway or McDonalds, instead of bringing a sensible lunch with me. I'm now walking to and from work, rather than driving. I've got an exercise bike at home, along with a set of dumbells, and a barbell, so I'll be trying to make some use of these as well. I'll mainly be using this blog to chart my weight-loss progress so that I can't slack off. (I'd appreciate it if peeps could badger me if I fail to post an update for a couple of weeks :Angel: ) Oh, as for the title: I'm a massive power rangers fan, and hope to cos-play at a couple of events this year (hence the need to lose some weight!)
good luck buddy. one small bit of advice from someone that was your size once (i'm also 5'11" and was once 245 lb.): diet is the most important thing for weight loss. sure, working out is great and useful. you can work out all day and if your diet stinks, it won't do you any good in the weight department. or at least it didn't for me. once i sorted my intake out, i was able to lose the weight and stay there. i used livestrong.com as a free calorie counter. i'm sure you can find tons if you poke around. all the best. keep us updated.

First update, and it's good news! Checking back, on 2nd Jan my weight was 17st, 7lbs As of tonight, 5th Jan, I down to a spritely 17st 3lbs I know it's not a massive improvement, but I have to admit, I'm feeling a little proud of myself What I've been doing; The main thing is cutting down on what I'm eating and drinking. So no fizzy drinks, no take aways, minimal snackage (and when I snack, it's a planned snack, so taken into account), but also cutting down on portion sizes, so rather than having two pieces of X, I'll just have one instead. Also, when I've had time at work, I've been doing 5mins of jogging on the spot two or three times a day. So, that's my little update
Good stuff! Keep it up and don't worry too much if things aren't always obviously progressing. Ups and downs are the nature of steady progress! LFD
Hey DB, Happy New Year! Good stuff and good luck! I've never been massively overweight, but was carrying around some unnecessary flab past few years, much the same reason, work lunch etc.. What I've found quite useful is fasting, I came across it by accident, was working on a few events and both were 2 days, where you'd work 16 hours a day non stop, no time to eat, just coffee. What I noticed following this is that I could eat much less and feel satisfied, say for a good 4-5 days after, combined with training an hour or so a day, particularly before eating helps too I think. Managed to lose the extra stone and a bit I had quite quickly and with little effort. These days I'll just do a few days a week where I fast for 16 hours a day, keeps my weight stable and feels good too. There's also a lot of health benefits associated with fasting so I'm sure that's part of its appeal, takes some getting used to though. Have a look, theres a lot of different methods about, maybe you find one that works for you. There's was a good BBC doc on it a few years ago if I recall correctly, it had that usual health Dr person they use for such shows.
It's been a little longer than I would of liked, but it's time for a quick update: As of tonight, I weigh 16st 6lbs Progress hasn't been as fast as the first week, but I'm steadily coming down on the scales, and feeling much better for it
This week has been pretty rubbish. Haven't weighed myself yet, but have had take-out a couple of times, and haven't worked out as much as I should. Not looking forward to my visit to the scales on Friday, but there's still a couple of days to try and put things right!
My personal view is occasionally this does you some mental good. It takes the pressure of the day to day thoughts of dieting and in my experience the weigh in isn't as bad as you expect it to be. Cut yourself some slack and think of it as a rest day.
Sooo... Things have gone awry. I'm back to 17st 6 But, a new gym has opened just over the road from my work, so I signed up. Today was it's opening day, so I went down there this evening and did: 15 mins cross trainer Some arm weighty things Some leg weighty things Another 10 mins on the cross trainer. I'll try and get the names of everything I'm doing next time, but I was quite pleased for my first ever gym session.
