Last man standing

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/listin..._4288_10777_60
Any one gonna be watching this? It's about athletes going around the world to compete against remote tribes. The first in the series will be about wrestleing with Kalapalo Warriors at the Festival of Death in the Brazilian Rainforest. And I'm sure the ad on tv showed something about stick fighting in later episodes.

Just watched the first episode this afternoon. Interesting stuff, although they don't look the most suited bunch to combat type competition. The insight into other cultures and the way they view the role of the warrior is the most interesting aspect of the program.

I will be watching the rest of the series, its already set to series link on the old Sky+ box

anyone watch this last night?

this is the first one I had seen - they were doing Leki Kiki (kick fighting)

has anyone heard of these 'masters of their field' before this program?

they are saying each of these people are the best from the west? They all just seem like better than average in their field to me.

the kickboxer guy didn't make to the competiton as he fractured his ankle kicking his opponent in the knee.

Although I really felt pissed for him there, I have to say that someone breaking their foot (Heel actually) whilst Side-kicking someone in the knee (Albeit very sloppily) struck me as being delightfully ironic.

The stick fighting episode was sooo obviously fake.

absolutely,
in my mind I was sarcastically thinking "remember, the knee will break under 9lbs of pressure.."

I watched it twice to confirm it in my mind. But on one hand you got these 'top' tribesmen who have been fighting for years since they wer 9-10.... then you got these skinny dudes who had 3weeks training. And in at least 2 of the matches, the tribesman just straight away backed up, never swung at the skinny dude, and then submitted - with your honor and tribes honor at stake - I dont think so.

The only real one I saw was the massive dude who went out swinging, smashing his stick into the shield of the tribesman, those swings had real power in them, and every strike was hitting where the guys hand was, so I could understand the tribesman backing out as Im sure his hand was sore.

The rest was a setup. Im 100% sure on it.

I've not seen it but the show will be governed by health and safety laws, so that means no real life smackage...

I dunknow about that, there was some pretty nasty stuff going on in more than one of the shows that I doubt was faked up. Maybe played up but not faked.

The wrestling one I thought was real. But they definitely spoiled it with the sticks. They should have left it out rather than ruin the series imo.

Yep, the stickfighting was so rigged.

However, the kick fighting from Nagaland was interesting stuff.

The Mongolian wrestling next week should be worth a look too.
