Yeah, that's one of the better articles I've seen (not that I'm a capoeira scholar of any kind) in that it doesn't turn capoeira history into folkloric legend-trading.
Although people who wonder where the mestre Manoel "Bimba" Machado got his name can certainly have a good laugh here. |

Yeah, I already have a copy of that article. He does a pretty decent job of tackling some of the myths. However, I would caution that research is still going on and that there have been African proposals for the word capoeira. To say that it is certainly not so is reminiscent of Acordeon mentioning in his book that there is nothing like capoeira in the diaspora, when there is l'ag'ya, among other things.
I also have a link I'll have to post later on the cyriaco/mako fight from an old Brazilian paper. Gotta go, now. More to come later. Thanks Slip. axe, dormindo
