Yeh, wax all over the place, including the back of my knuckles, (pulls the hairs off when you remove it), the candle went through the window, glass all over the place, bad idea.

I did it and broke my knuckles, and the candle didn't even go out!

After my knuckles healed, I took to it with a bat, and finally blew it out.

Tough work, my son. Those candles are stronger than they seem.

I've done it. Still do it, my daughter thinks it's the neatest thing ever (of course, she's only 3 and easily impressed). It's not hard to do, just takes practice.

It's not very hard. Neither is it really useful for anything.

It's quite simple, it requires decent control of your punches...
Just the right distance away from the candle to stop, just the right point to stop at.

Basically, aim directly at the candle flame, and punch straight at it, then stop in front of it. (as if that wasn't obvious...hahaha)

Try it! and have fun

it's an exercise in controlling your ma-ai (distance) stop just short of the candle, use adequate power. with a little practice, it's fairly easy

good luck.

I thought you were supposed to extinguish it with the pull-back?

I was wondering about this. What's the point?

I've done it with a fist, and done it with a wooden sword. Putting out candles with the sword is a test requirement at our school.

I've thought about putting out candles on a birthday cake with the sword -- then you'd be ready to cut the cake, too.

Does this in anyway develop power or is it just control?

Its meant to develop control in regards to the depth of the punch. Honestly the feat becomes much more applaudable if done at shorter and shorter distances.. like.. say 6 inches or so..
