[Capoeira] Too much too fast?
I did capoeira for like a month last year, then I had to stop because of school....Now I'm gettin back into it at school, 2 classes per week, 1 hour class...
I got into it with a friend who is rather fearless and learns quite quickly, and has never done capoiera before... Ok, on my 1 month of training, I went from not being able to do an Aú, to doing that, bençao, meia lua de frente and queixada...I also learned martelo, chapa, armada...I knew most of the basic kicks...but I wasn't very good at using them. I learned cocorinha, esquiva, negativa and role. I thought my first teacher was very good, because he took things slowly and paid attention to very small details, also dividing the class between us beginners, who would practice bimba's sequences, we got around 2 per class... on one or 2 final classes I did all 8, but some of them I was lacking, like the one with meia lua de compasso. Overall I think he was a very good teacher, he never even thought of teaching us stuff like au batido or macaco, and he let us go at our own rythm. I'm very stiff, my flexibility is very poor...I plan on doing an intense stretching routine, for like a month of so, to boost it a little, because most of my kicks i can't do high enough, which makes the technique suck. The new teacher...in 2 classes, taught us all of the basic kicks, is passing sequences with like 4 kicks, already made us try au batido, macaco, peao de mao, and today he made us try to walk while on a handstand...I know that probably all very easy to you guys, and that you can probably learn that kinda stuff fast....but I'm having a hard time keeping up, and can't work on any individual skill because there just so many, but....all that in 3 classes? I also overstretched my abductors and was feeling like **** today, which made the class pretty pointless for me... my friend can't keep up with most of the stuff as well... I know this is a very idiot post, about me complaining about the classes, but I would like to know from you guys if you think I should work harder or something, or the guy is actually takin it too fast... Sorry for the long post...I just had to say it

Different people have different speeds of learning things. If you find that your mestre is going to fast for you to keep up, ask him to slow down, or get him to help you with your moves. I do that all the time when I have problems with a certain move I want to do

Also remember that the teacher of the class doesn't expect everybody to be able to do all of the movements. The purpose of including difficult movements is to push the envelope (...i.e...challenge you), remove the mental fear regarding attempting movements (...alot of the difficulty is mental; apprehension), training the body, etc.
