Very good Shaolin Kung Fu Temple!
Now bear in mind, this is the only real shaolin temple in the United States located in New York, New York, and if you don't live close, you'll have to do some travelling, but if you want to learn the best, you have no other choice. You can acquire information on this temple at www.usashaolintemple.com and have them send you information/prices. I've seen them on the Discovery Channel and they seemed to be just as good as the Chinese temple in Shaolin, with less pain and torture. ie...4 year old kids having bamboo sticks broken over their backs etc...I myself have not gone to this temple, but one day I plan on it. But for those of you looking for good Shaolin Kung Fu instructors....this is most definately your best bet.

![]() For the ten-thousandth time: The "monks" at the Shaolin temple right now do not do authentic Shaolin martial arts! They do the watered-down, gymnasticified, performance-oriented PRC standardized forms. Please see the thread on Hai-deng for one of my many rants on this subject.

Eh???
Well, you let me know when you can get hit in the throat/groin as hard as someone can hit you without flinching, also when someone can break a bat over your back and you be in absolutely no pain at all. They did a test, because, when someone feels pain, their heart rate goes up, they hooked up a heart monitor to one of the monks from the NY temple and broke a bat over his back.....results were, his heart rate......dropped? Shaolin Kung Fu does incorporate gymnastics, even the temple in Shaolin China, look it up, it's a part of the art, consider this....they did a study for the most effective martial arts in the world..I don't remember them all but, Shaolin Kung Fu was #1......Ninjutsu was #4......Tae Kwon Do was like #40.........Shaolin Kung Fu is the most effective martial art, for big reasons, you can't hurt a shaolin monk, they're bred to take pain......if you ever defeat a shaolin monk from the temple in NY you let me know, but good luck! I've done extensive research into many different arts, including Shaolin Kung Fu, I don't just "jump" into things. I would say that learning to control your bodies' endorphines to not feel pain through meditation is a great way to start.

But seriously i must ..ag..ag...agree with slip here . The shaolin monk invincible is a myth long broken . I am sure there are some amazingly conditioned monks . But to treat any shaolin temple as the be all and end all is slightly ignorant . Do try by all means that place but if any survey did actually rank it as the no. 1 martial art then whatever criteria they chose it certainly was not combat efficiency . |

Ah where to begin...
First of all KonRyuu, Shi Yan Ming and his temple are not linked to any Shaolin Temples in China. Although he studied there, for political and other reasons, he is no longer a monk under that temple. The ONLY official Shaolin Temple branch in New York City is this one: http://www.shaolin-overseas.org/home.html Under Shi Guolin. Taken directly from the site: Quote:
As for this: Quote:

Any person who has been in the martial arts for longer than a year or two can tell that you are new, KonRyuu to the martial arts. You have enthusiasm for your school. You think your master is the most invincible person on the planet. Fine, I think every one of us has gone through that at some point or another. But trust me, jumping to the rash conclusions you have made here will only make it harder on you later when someone shows you the real deal. Just becareful of what you say. Gee that brings back memories. i remember when I used to think about TKD the same way KonRyuu thinks about his school. I thought my master was invincible, and I thought I was too all the way up to near black belt. Well sparring a Soo Hwa kung fu dude opened my eyes cuz he knocked the crap out of me... thought kung fu was the bomb so i joined it... then a muay thai fighter knocked the crap out of me years later... fixed my standup and did alot of knee/elbow training... BJJ guy submitted me years later. Funny thing is over the years, I've had my fill of trouncing plenty of kung fu, TKD, grapplers, and kickboxers. Point of the story is you will think you are invincible and that your style is the bomb diggity but honestly Kon Ryuu there will come a point where you realize that styles don't mean anything, and that when you hear things like "X martial art is the best in the world" or "Y martial art was ranked so and so" you will laugh because you know it is about the individual. How hard you cling to these shallow uneducated beliefs will determine how hard your first real lesson will be. But don't feel bad, I and many others were the same way and we got knocked down hard the first time, but great thing is all these silly notions went with them. Hurry up so we can have reasonable discussions man. |

Hey, genius!
The Shaolin Monks do glorified gymnastics and government approved WuShu! Get thee to a library and do a bit of research. The Temples were closed, the monks dispersed, and then the PRC decided that re-opening the Temples would be a good way to make a fast buck. Please, find me a Shaolin Monk who has trained a fighter of ANY repute. I'll wait. It'll take a while. They are not t3h d3adly, they are not authentic, and you need to stop trolling MAP with your damned ads! How many ads has this freak posted?
