Hung Gar questions

Greetings,
I used the search function to reserach Hung Gar, and I'm pleased to say I'm going to start training in this art. My Ninjutsu teacher, is a Kung fu teacher, and teaches various styles in a Chinese temple once a week. I recently found out that Hung Gar is one of them, and is the most appealing to me

I was just curious about how the belt/sash/grading system works.
I'm also curious about the fact that, there appears to be very little kicks involved.

How does Hung Gar compare to something like Wing Chun or CLF ?
Also is anybody aware of any other Hung Gar schools in Malaysia ?

CLF is related to HG according to CLF history.HG was one of the systems Chan Heung studied and put into his system(that's the Southern influence).Traditionally Chinese systems don't have belt rankings, but nowadays a lot of them do.My sash was just whatever color we were wearing.Hung is a lower kicking system, without many kicks in the old main forms(Gung Gee,Fu Hok,etc),but it has kicks outside the forms.Kicks are hidden in the forms too.A kick is a step,a step is a kick.Which HG?There are more branches than the Fu Hok,tho' that's the most common. Fu Hok Hung Gar and CLF have differences, but share a lot.(Ha Say Fuen (?) HG is more like WC in its stances and footwork, but is still very different.)Fu Hok is a power punching and 5 animal style.SERIOUS deep stance training.Although I no longer teach or practice Hung, allow me to say welcome to the clan and good training!

Hung Gar = lower stances, Tiger attack format, emphasis on uprooting, connecting/adhering to the bridge, and an "overpowering" type of attack.

CLF = slightly higher stances, Panther attack format, emphasis on NOT adhering to the bridge/grinding off the bridge, and an "overwhelming" type of attack.

Thanks for the info
I need to talk to my teacher a little more in depth about the linerage.
Basically he told me, it's a different branch from 'regular' Hung Gar, and it's not like the Hong Kong style.

I had my first Hung gar training session on tuesday night.
Very interesting stuff. There was a lot of emphasis on Tiger claw and Crane movements.

So,how do your legs feel?Say,if this isn't Fu Hok Hung Gar could you let us know what it is?Or did your teacher just mean it's not the Lam,Sai-wing lineage of FHHG?Welcome to the halls of pain and endurance.

If it's not Cantonese Hung Kuen (a.k.a. Tiger-Crane, Fu-Hok, etc.), then it's probably one of the lesser-known village styles. Yet, you'd mentioned that you'd done quite a few tiger-crane drills? There are various versions of HG (without even getting into the various lineages within the Lam Sai Wing/Cantonese clans!), so I guess it'd be possible to learn different (yet similar) Tiger-Crane sequences.

Like El Medico had mentioned, maybe it's Ha Say Fu? Then, again, HSF does not mix animals in their forms (e.g. no version of FHSYK or NYK). Instead, they have separate forms dedicated to each of the standard CMA animals. There are even HG systems that don't include the animal shapes at all.

Do share with us more about your HG pai as your training progresses at your kwoon. It's great to hear from HG sidai. Best of luck in your training
