Pudgy Pugilist - Old School Style
Given all the interest in the recent bareknuckle's stance thread... I cam across this. An interesting piece of boxing history. Just in case you thought Butterbean was the original.

Sheesh.
38 views and not a single reply. Guess fat blokes who have the skillz don't don't fit the neat little description of martial artists that are so pervasive.

Yep, truly a great boxer.
Butterbean, however...no. In his last 5 fights he has four losses against opponents who averaged 140 lbs less than him with a combined record of 89-47-1, which is hardly game competition for someone with a record of 71-7-4 as he has. He just got padded treatments whilst he was popular =P So many of his opponents have losing records that it's pathetic As for Fatty, he has my utmost respect both as a competitor and a warrior. It takes a lot of guts to get in a ring and fight, a lot more to do it bareknuckle, and even more to do it day in and day out.

Yeah gotta agree with you. Except for appearance I don't know how much similarity there really is between the two.
![]() Gotta love the info on these oldschool guys. Just hard as nails they were.

Those pictures of the old school fighters are great. Lucky for me I found a book entitled "A Pictorial History of Boxing," printed in 1975, at a second hand book store.
Great stuff!

Yeah. Damn.
Second hand bookstores are a great thing. Especially for finding out of print martial arts text. You lucky dog. Unfortunately in Asia most second hand bookstores only carry what westerners take backpacking with them... and most of those books are paperback *bleep*. Damn I wish more people went backpacking with boxing history books!
