Very Proud of My Students

Just a little post to praise my students.

Last weekend, after much anger and disgust at the lack of response from all levels of government to the disaster in the gulf from Hurrican Katrina, my school put on a hastily organized fundraiser.

We planned and executed a kick-a-thon/punch-a-thon and break-a-thon in 4 days. We were given space at our local mall during an outdoor festival that just happened to be on the same weekend.

We finished counting our receipts and, barring a few last minute pledges, raised over $4,600 for both the Red Cross and Feed the Children.

As a fabulous postscript to the weekend, we just found out that our school also won Best Martial Arts School in one of the local newspaper's annual reader's poll.

I would simply like to thank my students in this public forum for thier tireless efforts and dedication to themselves and the community.

Amazing !
Congratulations! It's nice to hear of people actually doing something instead of just complaining, good job.

Nice. That kind of achievement is it's own reward, but seeing the pride on your face can't hurt them either!

Good for everyone involved! Nice to see martial arts schools "giving back"... especially when we hear so much negitivity around.

Sounds like a great school!

Congrats on winning "Best MA's school" and thanks for raising money for the Hurricane katrina disaster. I can imagine you are proud of your students.

dngruss, very commendable. I tip my hat to you. Isn't it a shame that with all the resources we have in this country, it seems that efforts like yours were more effective in the immediate term than the federal government's response.

I just pray that you don't have to do something similar this coming weekend, because it looks like Rita is going to clobber the western Gulf Coast. Let's all pray for everybody down there.
