Exclamation The ultimate innovative training tool -JUMP ROPE - Excellent Training tool for MA

NOTE: For attatching pieces together, you can use electrical tape, hot glue, super glue, or if desperate epoxy.

NOTE: For the ones that use bottles, you can use 2 liter, 1 liter, 3 liter, or any bottle that will attatch to the cap. Keep this in mind. Each behaves a little differently.

For these tricks you need a jump rope:

#1. Used for general practice.

You can do quite a few jump rope tricks to turn them into a training tool, some of which ill explain later. The one i use is the following:

I used these little screw hooks to hold my rope over the doorway. For the other trix you need a overhanging bar however.

1. Hang the jump rope over a fixed point where it shouldnt slip or come off, maybe a upward nail in a doorway.
2. Secure one end to a near by object, or the wall, so its out of the way.
3. Adjust the height of the hanging end so its slightly above chest height.
4. Done

Ok all you do is work with your cordination.
If youve got a good rope with the black handles and silver rings on the part that attatches to the rope that will work best,
Just follow those rings with your eyes and hit them with your hands. Hit it while its moving but also practice blocks now and then, but always follow the silver part with your eyes. You can lower the rope for low kicks or raise it for high kicks and roundhouses.

This is nice because its responsive to your actions and it works in a relatively random manor.

#2 Used for slight resistance and weigthed training, such as roundhouses, spinning kicks, and resistance punching.

Hang the jump rope on a overhead bar or beam, or attatch it somehow. Take on side and secure it either by wrapping it arouind the bean, taping it down, or hold it and using it as a Y-axis rotation point when you do your kick.

Get a 2 liter pop bottle, and take off the cap.

Get some good tape, electrical tape works well, and tape the cap to on to the handle that is hanging freely.

Now take the pop bottle and fill it with a little water, or just keep it empty and screw it onto the cap on the jump rope.

Lower or raise as needed or fill with more weight as needed.

*****Method 2*******

This isnt compatible with the other trix that use the bottle cap mod. But you can also get an old shirt with long sleeves, and tie it securely around the free hanging handle.

#3 Training your blocks
NOTE: I have not tested this yet.

Follow Steps in #2

Get 4 stiff straight objects, that are close to a foot long each, and can stand some abuse form your blocking OR use only three if you feel you can put them equal distances apart accurately (three would seem to work better).

attatch them on another 2 litter bottle, about half way down the bottle, equal distances apart. The should extend directly outward. Use some super glue, or lots of tape.

Add water to the bottle so its weighted and spins around the Y axis smoothly.

To use it simply hit one of the attatched still objects with a forward forarm block, when another comes around hit it with your other arm. You can also lower it for low blocks. or maybe even for kick blocks, though for the kick practice you may want to extend the boards or objects you used to 1.5 -2 feet. you can use multiple pop bottles for different mods.

#4 Trips and Sweeps
NOTE: This is mainly adjustments to #2
Works well to practice your one legged trips and sweeps.

Follow #2

MAKE SURE your bottles cap is taped very well to the handle. It has to hold quite bit of weight.

Fill a bottle with all sand or all water (Sand is a harder material).

Attach the bottle SECURELY so it doesnt unscrew and lose all its content.

Adjust the rope so its about 3-6 inches off the ground.

Practice your trips and sweeps.

#5 Concentration,Coordination, and Focus in da dark
NOTE: Im not sure this actual does the above but its benefical and adds some spice to your workouts.

Ok this is kind of cool, the room must be completely dark, and the bottle is lit. So you practice working around the bottle hiting and blocking it. It has some water in it, possibly with some food coloring in it. Since you cant see the rope it seems like a floating bottle of water which you are sparring with.

Follow #2

Now theirs two ways you can go for lighting the bottle. The light is attatched to the bottom center. You can either get a cheap AA battery flashlight, or if your electrically inclined do a little of your own wiring. If you want to do your own wiring its covered a little later in this post, the benefits of wiring it are you dont have to have batteries, its plugin.

Basically all you do is tape the top of the flashlight to the bottom throughly. You have to work with the bottle because for tape its an odd shape to work with, or you can use super\hot glue.

Fill bottle with water, add food coloring if wanted, and screw bottle on.

Turn off lights.

Spar!

CUSTOM WIRING:

For this you need an adapter, prefereably a 3 or 6 volt low amp adapter, or a variable tranformer, like off a train or car set. You also need a small bulb as well as some wire.

Just cut the adapter cord, and splice the wires, so the copper wire underneath is showing you need about 3 inches showing. Splice about 7 feet of wire as well and twist one end pair of the wire to the adapter\transformer wires. Glue or better yet soulder the other end of the wires to the bottom of the light bulb and the metal of the side. Now attatch the light bulb to the bottom of a 2 liter bottle. run the wire up and over the beam or thing the rope is on. Plugin and enjoy.

Enjoy

Whats too explain. Basically this shows howto use a jump rope (Modded somewat) for MA training, such as kicks, roundhouse, sweeps, trips, etc. A jump rope works good because it is pretty much randomized movement.

I don't want to say this and I hope that others dissagree with me on this because you have given a lot of effort into writting this, but why not just skip with it?

Use a speedball, floor to cieling ball, heavy bag, sparring partner thai pads and other kit that you can really give a good dig to and that have been used by professional fighters for years. I am all up for improvising equipment but this is just a bit contrived and seems almost detrimental to martial arts. How can your power, timing and co ordination improve from lightly hitting a bottle hanging from a piece of string.

I mean this with a lot of respect mate as you have put a lot of effort into this post and I hope you can elaborate and prove me wrong.

The key is that it because of the random movement, it adds a little bit of feedback. Keep in mind the bottle is normally weighted with water in it. Nothing can replace a sparring partner. That is the best training. However this is the closest to solo training i can get to imitating feedback of some movement of an opponent (somewhat). It also can be raised or lowered adding for focus on generating power for specific heights. The weight slow the bottle down enough so you are not blindl hitting a too fast bottle. Basically you are targeting a moving target and it more of extension to shadow boxing than anything. ITs also realativelyt free for those who cant afford equipment. It was orginally derived by another for practicing high roundhouses solo (Heavy bags with a reversed roundhouse can cause hyperextension if too much is thrown into the kick.) The main reason is for those who cant afford heavy training equipment for solo training. But can be beneficial too a point for those who do have access to equipment and too provide some more somewhat randomized feedback. For one foot trips (swing your foot into the calf while they are unbalanced and trip them) this is the only method i know of to solo train it safely. This was wrote about a year ago btw. If youve got normal training equipment available use it instead though. It can be detremental too your MA if you try to go into chaotic speed punching, instead of putting proper technique into each hit. USe technique and try to hit the moving target with the proper technique. Dunno its done some good for me, but gains are limited once your are high inter/advanced MAs. By all mean critisize, i dont mind negative critisism as long as its not mud slinging.
Sorry for the grammar and spelling im in a hurry.

It also works nicely (without all the modifications just the jump rope), to hang it let it swing and dodge it as it flies by. This limbers the spine rather well.

You mean all this time I've been using it wrong by moving it in a circle around my body and jumping over it?
