The Alan Lee System

I live in New York City and have heard about Grandmaster Alan Lee for years. Has anyone trained at his kwoon? I'm very interested in hearing about your experiences there such as the curriculum and things of that nature. Thank you

I have not trained directly with Master Lee. I did spend some time with a student in his downline. That quite frankly was a mixed experience due more to the instructor than the material taught.

From my discussions with people in the NYC CMA community, the reactions to Lee are mixed. Some people feel that his style and students are quite good. Other have less postive opinions. However, those have been due to the fact that Lee created his own stylistic synthasis rather than staying within a traditional system.

When I visited the school to ask about classes I was told that the first three to six months focused on fitness and body conditioning (strength and stretching) before you seriously got into the practice of the arts. That's a strategy I support.

I suggest visiting the school and forming your own opinion.

Thanks for the info. I trained with a guy who was a student of lee's for awhile also. i was quite interested in conditioning/strengthening exercises like 'snake turnovers' and such.
