Intro to Xing Yi, with some good points coming out
This was taken when I was in a chat room, in conversation with someone who practiced Silat. I think the questioning was very worthwhile and worth mentioning here for your information.
Pesilat: is Xing Yi Quan a Chinese Boxing method? bursting_fist_of_xingyi: yip Pesilat: what is the premise of this xyq system? bursting_fist_of_xingyi: kill maim and destroy mainly Pesilat: no really? bursting_fist_of_xingyi: its on my website, its too lengthy to describe here Pesilat: ok bursting_fist_of_xingyi: go check it out: www.xingyiquan.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk Pesilat: i will Pesilat: hmm, looks rather interesting. The 5 elements can you expand on that? top_glas joined the room bursting_fist_of_xingyi: yip, though they're not the main emphasis of the art Pesilat: The 5 elements Earth, Metal, Water, Fire, Wood bursting_fist_of_xingyi: they're just like a 'brief introduction' Pesilat: right okay bursting_fist_of_xingyi: you know the game paper scissors stone? Pesilat: sure bursting_fist_of_xingyi: the 5 elements are like that Pesilat: i see top_glas left the room bursting_fist_of_xingyi: fire beats metal, water beats fire, earth beats water, wood beats water, metal beats wood, and so on Pesilat: We use 5 elements theory but we look at the cycle of destruction method as well bursting_fist_of_xingyi: we can use both productive and destructive bursting_fist_of_xingyi: as well as complimentary cycles Pesilat: yes WHEELS OF WISDOM (dcrjrwow) joined the room bursting_fist_of_xingyi: however, its just a basis to teach someone how to fight with xing yi Pesilat: so basically you follow the meridian flow as well? bursting_fist_of_xingyi: its not exactly rocket science bursting_fist_of_xingyi: no bursting_fist_of_xingyi: some schools might, but we dont Pesilat: ok bursting_fist_of_xingyi: we go as far as saying 'its 5 elements' bursting_fist_of_xingyi: because people tend to understand that bursting_fist_of_xingyi: though really it should be 'beginner moves and principles to energy shifting' Pesilat: We study a little bit of the Dim Mak or others call it Kyusho methods attacking vital points on the body, using the 5 elements of destruction along the meridians of the body hazhar_20042003 joined the room bursting_fist_of_xingyi: in xing yi its not necessary to study dim mak bursting_fist_of_xingyi: (luckily) Pesilat: yes, but it would enhance your study im sure! bursting_fist_of_xingyi: not really hazhar_20042003 left the room Pesilat: Dim Mak is not really a part of Silat either. however we do touch on it to better our knowledge of precision attacking bursting_fist_of_xingyi: exactly why we dont need it bursting_fist_of_xingyi: Pesilat: Ok bursting_fist_of_xingyi: sounds a bit weird i know, but silat and xing yi share different reasons for why they exist bursting_fist_of_xingyi: you see in silat you wouldnt be wearing armour Pesilat: no bursting_fist_of_xingyi: in xing yi, you would bursting_fist_of_xingyi: therefore dim mak wouldnt work Pesilat: Pesilat are warriors we live to die bursting_fist_of_xingyi: you only have to know where the gaps in the armour are Pesilat: Why would anyone wear armor? bursting_fist_of_xingyi: because it was developed for the chinese army to recapture china after the kublai khan invaded and took over it. Pesilat: Sure but that was many years ago. Why would you keep something within your system that is obsolete in today's world. Does that really make it effective then? bursting_fist_of_xingyi: and then later refined by whooping the japanese for a while bursting_fist_of_xingyi: yes it does make it effective Pesilat: ok bursting_fist_of_xingyi: you see, if they do wear armour, we dont need to change our tactics. bursting_fist_of_xingyi: if they dont wear armour, we still dont need to change our tactics bursting_fist_of_xingyi: Pesilat: oh okay Pesilat: do you have any weapons in your system? bursting_fist_of_xingyi: it is totally based on weapons bursting_fist_of_xingyi: the only reason we have unarmed is due to it becoming outlawed/illegal etc Pesilat: oh great! so what types of weapons traditional Chinese ? bursting_fist_of_xingyi: but even then, the unarmed is still the same as armed Pesilat: oh bursting_fist_of_xingyi: bow, spear, sabres, swords, shields, needles etc. Pesilat: do you do close quarter knife or edged weapon combat? Pesilat: i see bursting_fist_of_xingyi: yea, with needles Pesilat: Needles? bursting_fist_of_xingyi: xing yi is only close range bursting_fist_of_xingyi: they're like emei piercers, but longer and double edged knives protuding both sides of the fist Pesilat: well sounds like XYQ is on the right track then. bursting_fist_of_xingyi: Pesilat: have a good day sir. I must run now. |
