OK, here it is, my (OMG!) 1000th post. Some people (KT) like poetry contests, some like asking about daft things about yourself (Booksie). I, however, cant think of anything like that, as you may have seen in my Journal. What can I post for 1k? This is the only thing i could think of (I know it's lame):
Is there anything famous about the area where you live? Any famous places? Any movies been filmed nearby? Anyone famous from round your way? I'll start of ![]() Local area famous for: most of the movie Billy Elliot (filmed less than 5 minutes away) and Durham Cathedral and Castle, where some bits of the Harry Potter movies are filmed. Local Famous People: Tony Blair, Prime Minister of Great Britain and Roy Chubby Brown, comedian from just down the road. Those are the things I can think of ATM ![]() Come on people, make this last as many pages as Mrs Owt's 1k post

First off good job on 1000
Lets see the area I am in is famous for Selena (don't even get me started on that, she was a singer not a saint) Pearl Hasrbor was filmed near here, and George Strait runs around here somewhere. Also the King Ranch attracts a lot of celebrity hunter, Larry Hagman, and the Bush's. I went to school with some guys that eventually became The Hunger which has received some quasi-success.

Congrats on 1000 gask
Ill talk about the town I grew up in, because I dont know this area as well. I grew up in New Paltz, New York. One of the places where the Hugenots settled.... Aiden Quinn, Julia Roberts and a good handfull of other celebrities have homes in the Hudson Valley. Its actually getting a decent amount of attention at the moment because of all the fuss about gay marriages. The NP town mayor decided to marry gay couples in our town, and it got a lot of news coverage. Besides that, a neighboring town is Kingston, the former capital of New York. *shrug* I know there are some historically relevant things but I dont remember most. But I think The State University of New York at New Paltz was a big site for war protests during the late 60s and early 70s....theres deffinitely plenty of old hippies there .

Congrats Gaskell! You know get your gold-plated key to the MAP restroom!
And Winnipeg has had a lot of movies filmed here. The newest one coming out is the dancing one with Jennifer Lopez and Richard Gere ( I have no idea what it is called) and Robin Williams just finished shooting one here. And Susan Sarandon had a necklace stolen from a film shoot here which was later found on the nightstand of a murdered ne'er do well. We are also famous in Canadian terms as the birthplace of the 1919 General Strike. Very near to where I live on the outskirts of Winnipeg is the geographical centre of Canada, it has a sign post and everything!(boring, but it's all I got!!!) |

Healesville? What's Healesville got? Nuffin!
We-ell, there is a famous Boy-band member living here... Mercury 4 (actually good friends with my brother in law. One of the star players for a AFL football team (Collingwood)'s mum used to live next door. They film a lot of ads here for driving in the country and showing high performance cars and tyres. Also some shots of the 'country' for shows like Neighbours and McLeod's Daughters get filmed around here too. The area's cleaned up a fair bit now but when I was younger there was a programme here where they would move hardened criminals here to give them a 'fresh start'. Good idea! NOT! |

Go Gaskell!
WHOOT WHOOTDon't forget Jim trying to actually make us think ![]() Oh dear, is there anything famous about Toowoomba? Lets see, Cathy Freeman was from around here, or at least she lived here for a while. I know she went to my school for about half a year, and apparently she hated it. Do you foreigners even know who Cathy Freeman is? Oh, and we're the Garden City of Queensland ...

Congratulations on the thousandth post, Gaskell!
I may be stretching the definition of "near me", but here goes: World record land wind speed recorded at the Mount Washington Observatory (231 mph -- the claim of 236 mph from Guam could not be substantiated). The movie "On Golden Pond" was filmed at Squam Lake (I took a lake cruise there not too long ago, and saw the cruise captain's photos of Henry Fonda and Kathryn Hepburn). Famous person? Well, Dean Kamen (inventor of the Segway) lives one town over. New Hampshire has the "first in the nation" presidential primary election. The town I used to live in is known as the "Speed Trap of New Hampshire", also the "Largest One-Horse Town in New Hampshire" Nothing too impressive, maybe, but hey, I live in a small state!

Well the patron Saint of Phoenix is none other then Alice Cooper...he's a local, they're very rare (Phoenix is at least 80% transplants). A number of celebrities hang out here including Rob Halford (Judas Preist), Stevie Nicks, Kerry King (Slayer), George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob), Dave Ellefson (Megadeth). I believe there's this guy from Liverpool who has a house around the Tucson area ...Paul Mc something or other. Any ideas there Yoda?
There have been so many films shot around here its hard to keep them straight off the top of my head ...Raising Arizona At least half the westerns ever shot were filmed here. There's a really neat movie set around Apache Junction where many old westerns were done. It's that town and saloon that you've seen a thousand times in movies and tv.On a martial arts theme how about Showdown with Billy Blanks and the desert training scenes on Papago Peak.
