PoD is a Solid movie by Carpenter, but my personal favourite (in the "Apocalypse triology" or otherwise) is still "In the Mouth of Madness"

Oh yeah. I'm a huge Lovecraft fan. And, while that's not explicitly a Lovecraft story, it definitely has that feel. That's one of my favourites of Carpenter. The Thing is obviously another.

I even enjoyed Ghosts of Mars. Though it's a very different sort of film.

Still waiting for a decent "Call of Cthulu" adaptation...Lovecraft is superb

I watched Contagion, I didn't think it would be a movie to captivate me killer viruses and disaster movies really don't do it for me, but this one was something else, stellar cast great acting, kept me at the edge of my seat, the best parts were the start/middle and the ending was a little weak but still enjoyable. Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Winslett, Jude Law, Audrey Tatou a great cast!

    7/10

I'm finding IMDB reviews to be more and more ridiculous! Too many 14 year olds giving a movie 1 star because it didn't have any explosions.

Rotten Tomatoes on the other hand seems to be spot on most of the time, altough a little cruel to some movies.

There's a very low budget amateur film by that name that is really quite cleverly done. It's no blockbuster, but well worth checking out in my opinion.

On the other end of the spectrum, there's The Last Lovecraft, which I also loved but for very different reasons.

I watched The Secret in Their Eyes a few nights ago. Great film, not as actiony as the trailer would have you believe. It's not exactly a whodunnit because they do have a suspect but still the title works on a number of levels, inside the law office, the dead woman, her husband, the murderer... Won some film awards too.

Seen that one and yes it was very well done - atmospheric certainly.

I just want to see Cthulu emerge from R'lyeh in all his garguntuan glory in a slo-mo massive movie monster type of way! The visuals in my head are terrifying!!

Fright Night (2011). Wasn't bad. Even Colin Farrel managed not to suck. David Tennant absolutely stole the show though.

I sometimes find with rotten that reviews with negative conotation have a fresh tomatoe and vice versa.

If you find it, TELL ME. :)

In the meantime, check out "The Last Lovecraft." It's Cthulhu as told by Kevin Smith.

Just watched the adaptation of Brian Keenes Ghoul and am sadly disappointed. For one thing, the film turns the ghoul into a Scooby Doo villain. Not scary like he was in the book. Also the book is more clear on the ghouls motivations, he needs the girls to impregnate and continue his species, he eats the bodies of men. The movie fails to explain that. Also, the film makes a major change in what the ghoul is. In the book he is the last of his kind, hence why he needs women for breeding. The film tries to turn him into something else entirely and it doesn't work.
What the movie did get right was showing that sometimes the real monsters are the ones we live amongst. Disturbing issues including child abuse, incest, domestic violence are dealt with. But thats the only part of the book the film gets right.
So if you've read the book you won't be impressed with the movie.

I've been hearing the new Fright Night was actually quite well done and people were surprised by it, I have it just waiting to get around to watching it.

Caught the Ides of March last night, really well done. Ryan Gosling is seriously one to watch I always thought of him as "that guy from the Notebook" but with his performances in Drive, Crazy Stupid Love and The Ides of March he is definitely one to watch, he is impressing me with his range. I hear he did a great job on Blue Valentine but haven't caught it yet. George Clooney is proving himself to be a great director!

Great supporting cast, Paul Giamatti and Phillip Seymour Hoffman who if it wasn't for his looks would be a Hollywood A Lister.

This movie might be a drag for those not really into politics, but it focuses around the Democratic candidate for the next president, and it's kind of a growing up story about politics, being naive and young and wanting to change the world to the dirty world of politics.

    Really enjoyed this movie, 7/10

Caught the new Fright Night tonight, a good fun movie, funny in places but I guess it is directed more towards the teen demographic. 6/10

    Worth a watch.
