    Hi, MAP.

I've been looking for some good Karate, TKD, or TSD high level kumite videos but have found very few so far. Does anyone know of any specific videos/channels/websites/sources where I can find this kind of material? It would be really useful for me.

    Thanks a lot :D

Additionally, I wonder if anyone knows if it's possible to purchase DVD's from the Japanese Karate Association's extensive list at a much cheaper price than they offer ($100+ per DVD)?

    Patrick,

I don't know about JKA videos, but there are some videos here that you may be interested in that tend to be pretty high quality:

As for karate kumite videos, are you thinking primarily of WKF style point-fighting? There's so much out there to pick from, it's kind of overwhelming. But I did come across this one recently which I enjoyed: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIiaDpMKW8g"]Hong Kong Karatedo Team Tournament 2011- Men's Team Kumite Final - YouTube[/ame]

If you're interested in other styles of karate fighting, more continous stuff, or knock-down, let me know. Maybe I can find some good ones.

    Happy training!

@JKMann - Thanks! I'm not looking for instructional videos (unless they are by JKA or about Tang Soo Do/Soo Bahk Do). Rather, I'm just looking for filmed sparring matches between very good fighters to help develop my sparring sense.

I really don't like the "bounce bounce bounce" style of fighting... it feels completely disingenuous to me. Bleh. I love the JKA style of fighting that involves a great deal of good kicks (specifically), excellent punches, leg sweeps, and take downs. Anything like the JKA, regardless of the style of martial art is great with me. :)

By thre way, all the DVD's by JKA are not $100+ after all. I misread it. The price is still $65+, though, which is very expensive for a 1-2 hour long DVD.

@Llamageddon - Thanks for the link.

Check out Elwyn Hall from back in the 80's.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5faGD5b6Zw"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5faGD5b6Zw[/ame]

I love his style of competition fighting... especially when you compare it with the previous attached video and the bouncy rubbish modern day point "fighting" has evolved into..

Having trained with Elwyn recently, I can confirm that he is still as formidable 25 years later..(positively scary training session and his control has not improved....).

    Cheers

Just go to the WKF or whatever association you like. Look up their results from the most recent world championships or start at the top of an international fighters ranking list.

Put the name into youtube. Even if the first few dont (unlikely) have any videos. Youll get hits eventually.

This will have some footage in it that may suit your needs if you've not already seen it. I've posted it several times at MAP. Well worth a watch on many other levels as well:

Thank you for posting that... while I'm not a karateka I've been a fan of his for some time. I had friends who trained with him some time back in the UK and man... these are all guys with good boxing/MT/KF skills and they all tip their hats to the man. Impressive.

    Hi Slipthejab

I remember first training with him in Enoeda's dojo in Martial Street in London in the 80's. I was just a lowely 3d Kyu then...

Training with Elwyn in the flesh is quite something, he is just as dynamic as he is in those Youtube video's. What was particularly impressive was the power and speed and accuracy of his techniques whilst he is on the move..no loss of fidelity.

Being his uke was not fun though...
