Sorry Pat, it was a few years ago in a club in Longstone, where Parente Gym is now. I only went for one lesson because it was so expensive.

I would go to the academy. Bob will give you a great foundation. All I had when I joined Bob before the academy days was a little TKD which I hated and some boxing. Bob gave mantua foundation to be able to specialise in any area I chose and I chose eskrima via Bob.

      Hope that helps
      Best regards
      Pat

All I can say if you have the chance to train with Bob you go for it, I can honestly say if it where not for Bob I would not kow half as much as I know now, yes he teaches a mixuture of arts but he give you the oppertunity to specialise in what you like and he will recognise what it is you want and let you work that area. go for it is all I can say all he will do is enhance you knowledge which ever path you choose to take

... (sorry, I ran out of space for this message)

I was wondering whether you think it would be a wiser choice to develop (or re-develop) a firm foundation in a single art such as Wing Chun or Kali first, and then study at the Academy later on down the line. I know that you've had an extensive background in Escrima- did you learn this before going to Mr Breen's Academy? and I also know that you're a senior student of the Academy and a very well respected Martial Artist- which is why I've come to you with this problem.

I'm sorry to burden you with this it's just that this has been driving me somewhat crazy. I need the advice of someone knowledgeable who has literally 'been there and done that'. :)

      Hi Tuhon O'Malley,

      My name's Vishal.
I was wondering whether you could help me with a Martial Arts related question.
I was looking over some old posts here on the forum and came by one that you commented on about the Bob Breen Academy. (I didn't want to restart that post, which is why I'm asking you directly). I hope you don't mind.

I was thinking about joining the Bob Breen Academy as it's pretty close to me, with an ultimate aim to specialise in Kali. I've actually had the opportunity to train with Mr Breen, and he seems fantastic. I'm a little worried though about learning a mixture of JKD, Kali and kickboxing all at once- as I've been out of Martial Arts training for a while now. I actually studied Wing Chun for a while.
