Chi, is the internal energy. You can drw Chi form anything that is alive, because we all give out energy.
You learn how to breathe in such a way, that you actually have more power, or strength....that is why people who have spent their lives in the arts will sometimes say that "true strength comes from within."

All I know is that chi is energy, it is the life force of all living things. The supreem source of energy and vitality.
Well, that's my understanding.

Jimmy's right, I have seen some wacky stuff but I believe that what is touted as 'chi', is just the correct application and understanding of your own body mechanics, which aren't necesserily the same for everone.

well i think that chi is life force, well there's a word in Indian teachings "Prana" which is my definition to chi. without prana no life exists... and of course to understand prana u hav to learn body mechanics or watever they r called...:D sorry for my ignorance...
just me with my own thougths wandering here n there..

Just because it can be explained doesn't make it any less magical. As Arthur C Clarke should have said 'Any technology or system of techniques sufficiently advanced appears to be magic, so why pretend that is isn't?'

chi isn't just good mechanical knowledge although it's very very important, it's also directing your will towards what your doing, that's part of the reason you look at your hands when you practice tai chi, chi only comes after mastering the mechanical aspects then applying your mind to those mechanical aspects.

i agree with jimmys comments.I'v e done taichi for almost two years and have 13 years of kung-fu under my ever increasing belt and it does all come down to Good, instinctive understanding of biomechanics and your own body. breathing helps ...but that in its self does not produce chi. Chi is energy produced by your body...it is blood that feeds body parts with energy in the form of essential vitimans and minerals...and oxygen...which can by increased by learning how to breath properly ( no cracks about amateur breathing ) .
so yes...breathing helps...but it still comes down to a Good, instinctive understanding of biomechanics and your own body.
only my opinion of course.
:D
and spike...its not the force that surrounds you and binds you...its hairspray!!!!
