Hi everyone,

First time posting here.

I have decided to get back in shape and to do so I will get a standing punching bag as a starter. I read that the Wavemaster Powerline is pretty good for punches and kicks so this is the one I will buy. My problem is where do I find such a bag ?? I'm in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and despite having done quite a bit of research on the net the only place I found it was in Ontario, Canada where the shipping cost will kill me.

If anyone knows where to buy the Wavemaster Powerline in Montreal or anywhere in Quebec please let me know.

TIA,
Iso

Hi Iso, there's a bunch of places that sell 'em. Hugosport, Jukado, and I know Rival boxing used to have a few kicking around. There's other places as well, but I get our stuff from these guys.

My two cents would be to get a hanging bag though, if possible at all. They last longer, are usually cheaper and they don't fall over all the time...lol

Hi MeSamurai,

Thanks a lot for these places, I will call next Monday.

I was going to first buy a hanging bag but my space is a bit limited because I would need to buy the stand which takes quite a bit of room.

Thanks a lot :)

Jukado Montreal is definately a good place to start - I found them very helpful, friendly, and willing to get anything I wanted for the most part. Good luck!

Hi,

I called Jukado Mtl and they do not carry the Century line of product. I have reserved one Wavemaster XXL at HugoSports. Now I have to go buy about 250-300 lbs of sand.

Since this is totally new to me I now need to find a decent book or DVD on how to box properly before I harm myself using the wrong technique. I bought a few days ago a MMA glove (UFC) and a few hands wrap.

Thanks a lot.

Jukado was once my holy grail for supplies(and is still golden in my books) in Montreal, but hugo has always been where we get our Gi, and they revamped their eq with more products for heavy contact (plus I don't have to contact Rival Boxing anymore since they have an 'understanding')since the son took over. Saves me some shipping costs for sure.
I'm guessing this is purely for fitness, right? IMHO, starting from zero and learning from a dvd or book is not the best idea. See if there's someone or a club that you can go to for a little bit of instruction, just to get the basics. It might just cost you the price of a good book, and there's a whole mess of places to go to.

Or..... ask if there's anyone on MAP that lives near you and can show you how..

It is indeed for fitness, I stop smoking 2 months ago and have decided to get back in shape, I've been wanting to buy a hanging punching bag for the past 15 years. Great idea to ask someone on MAP or a small course in a club near by, my set-up should be operational by neax week. I will see then. Thanks !

I would definitely call around just to see if there was anything on a monthly basis near you, and it just might, if you find something, lead you to continue with those lessons for a long time to come... Lots of good clubs there.

Hi ISO, I'd advse you to get a pair of 10 -12 oz boxing gloves to use at first to protect your hands. You have to be careful of injuries, especially the first few times you use a punchbag, and MMA gloves don't offer that much protection. I'd advise using the wraps and boxing gloves for a while first before using them.
