Apart from the inherent coolness factor of being able to tell people you're a ninja, why would someone decide to study ninjitsu rather than another martial art? What distinguishes ninjitsu arts from other martial arts?

Its about the cool tactics of self defense and war!! to win a war or a fight heroism is not everything!! u need strategy to win!!and ninjutsu has it all!!

I trained in several martial arts before starting in Ninjutsu. While each had it's merits and pitfalls, I felt that none were complete. Sure, I could mix form several that would compliment each other, but it didn't feel right. Then I discovered Ninjutsu and it's "wholeness" and freedom and now I can't imagine doing anything else.

As Kurohana said it gives you a "wholeness." I like to say a "completeness," but it is the same meaning. To me Ninjutsu teaches you everything you need to know without beating around the bush. It doesn't show you moves (fancy or not) that don't work. It only teaches you stuff that does work.
I also like want Conquistador said about it being his house of worship. I don't use the dojo as my "house" I use the art as my "house." The meditation helps me mentally and spiritually become a complete person. Besides that, Ninpo is all about one's self not about something or someone else like how church or religon is.
Besides if you can't handle the Ninjutsu thing but want the martial art I suggest looking into Jeet Kune Do. They are very similar.
