Depends how you want to play the game. Both have advantages and disadvantages and both are fun :D

With, and Why not? they Can offer the point of realism that like if you had jacket or suit or heavy shirt on. and hey are just more fun than average clothing.

I train no gi.

May do a bit of gi later this year, but I don't like it.

The gi OR some type of upper body apparel can come in handy... Lapel chokes, sleeve chokes, extra grip (when you or your opponnent are sweating),etc.. It can also be used against you. I prefer both.

Hmm, no gi, dobok, etc...naked martial arts. Might work for me :D

I'll just wear a dobok or just those white plain pants or black and fight without a top or wear those shorts like the Muay Thai/Kickboxers wear.

Yes a gi can be useful....

If you don't mind fighting with a noose around your neck....

:D

As a newbie in BJJ I find the gi to be a great learning tool...I get choked out all the time.

for me to do anything, I need to do it correctly and I can't rely solely on strength to escape because of the grip advantage it gives opponents.

everything is much easier when I take the top off and go with just a rash guard/underarmor.

Wander around on a friday night in a martial arts uniform, and you'll soon be fighting in a uniform.

Personally, whichever.

In my MMA class we trained with and without. The enlightening moment came for me when instructor told us all to go put our coats on. We then grappled with them on. Of course, if your training is more geared toward 'recreational' grappling or in more temperate climates no gi is great. For those of us who were training for self-defence (which this particular class was focused on) training with a gi seemed more applicable. Odds are if you are wearing a jacket your assailant will be too, better know how to handle that. In a climate like ours (3/4 of the year the weather requires light or heavy jackets) it is a necessity to train for self-defence situations in a realistic manner.
